Normally I feel their puzzles are too easy, even on hard, and this position isn't too difficult either, more like medium complexity rather than hard, but is very pretty.
Too easy for comps...maybe the old dedicated units might take some time on this.
But for most humans a nice combination to work out.

Isnt it a won position for white regardless if you play that combination or not? Queen 3.09 prefers to move its knight, is that the right move?

will fire up the London 020 tonight and let it chew on this position for awhile to see what it comes up with
the 020 is in the Bavaria board which recognizes the piece and color
so setting up positions is a snap!
Soon Grahams Van 32 is due for its check up..from the neck up

Re: Yesterday's Puzzle at the Shredder Site
The only clear win Tony is the combination. Yes the Night is the first piece involved to execute the combination.Tony Thomas wrote:Isnt it a won position for white regardless if you play that combination or not? Queen 3.09 prefers to move its knight, is that the right move?
I didn't give the solution, as I felt many people would like to work it out for themselves.
No More Hints Regards,
Terry
P.S. After the Night surrenders its life, programs prefer to spare it to prolong the agony.
P.P.S. I think programs should show both the "Human Line" and the "Computer Line", it would be a nice feature. We see all the time machines only showing lines that protract the game leaving the person viewing the analysis to figure out for themselves why the machine is making strange looking moves. Interestingly enough, Deep Blue 97 ver. often made the "human move" when losing, this drove Kasparov nuts, and helped lead to his conspiracy theory.

however..the buyer is a brand new Ebay member with NO transactions to his credit
very odd indeed for an Ebay newbie to dive head first into his/her first auction with a major purchase like this
Hmmm Regards
