Post by Sylwy »

Hi all !

Does someone know another chess program of master Chris Wittington ?
I know only:
1.Chess Simulator (for Atari);
2.Chess System Tal II (for Windows).
I like a lot these programs. BTW -CST2 has a very good evaluation !
Thank you in advance !

There were more programs, like the Complete Chess System for Amiga, CSTal (1) for DOS... and his name is Whittington, not Wittington.

From my viewpoint, there was a potential to produce a "conservative" top chess program without the risk & antihuman stuff, too. I don't know why this never happened. CSTal was quite good - an underestimated program which didn't receive the reputation it deserved - but it disappeared more or less or is only a kind of software zombie, now. Maybe the problem was that during a specific period of time, any normal chess program was at best number 2 behind Fritz.

But i consider C.Whittington a maybe misguided talent, because what is the outcome: CSTal was never even number 2 behind Fritz, and now it isn't even number 200. It is nowhere, while engines like Hiarcs, Shredder, Junior and even some new or free engines enjoy the bright light of a Top-10 spot.

A sad story.
