Rybka vs Kasparov?

Post by bigo »

Hypothetically speaking, what would happen if Kasparov were to play Rykba2.3.2a in a Six Game Match on Modest hardware (Dual Core 4200+ 1.5 Gigs Ram}? :?:

We don't know the answer to your question.
It's "How many angels can dance on the head of a pin?"
but rephrased in a chess context.

I think that a match of Rybka verses Deep Blue would be interesting.
But that's not going to happen either.

Actually I thought it was obvious that my post was looking for speculation since no one has a crystal ball? :x

It is not a hard question to answear and no one needs a crystal ball. Rybka would crush Deep Blue. MP today is done much better than it was done with Deep Blue and MP today only adds a very modest increase to playing strength. Rybka is hundreds of points stronger than Deep Blue. Rybka would crush an ageing Kasparov. The effort that Kasparov would have to exert over the six most grueling games of his life would make him crumble to ash in a very short time. A 28 year old Kasparov may be able to keep the match close.

We have no proof of any of this, it's all conjecture. Don't claim things that can't be falsified.

Kasparov has only lost one match by one game with computers. Kasparov is not an old man at 44. Deep Blue although probably weaker is not around to test.

It is hard to guess who would win. It is trying to say who would win if Federer played Borg in a Wimbeldon final. You would be speculating. Personally I think Kasparov would be crushed by a Rybka on fast hardware. That is not to say that Kasparov plays chess poorly ... I think he is the best human chess player ever. But really ... engines and hardware have come a long long way ... and humans simply cannot be expected to compete with today's engines on fast hardware.
