Any one know if F11 will function using standard Windows XP (no SP2) home edition?
I don't particularly want to down load SP2.

Re: A question regarding Fritz11
With SP2 clearly mentioned, it's a bit hard to believe that it would work without. Though, it needs to be seen when it's released.
And what's the problem with getting SP2? The size?

According to german forums Shredder 11 (CB) works even under Windows 98SE ! Don't trust minimum requirements at all (they are for
best possible graphics and functions).

Jaimes,
I'd recommend that you install SP2; it's an absolutely critical security update.

Yes, updating windows is strongly advised. An unpatched Windows XP version connected directly to the internet is typically hacked in around 15 minutes. http://aroundcny.com/technofile/texts/tec082904.html

"But installing SP 2 will not necessarily make a Windows XP computer safe. New security holes and dangers in patched XP computers have already been reported. I recommend holding off on installing the patch for a month or two so that Microsoft can try to fix the security holes in its latest patches."shiv wrote:Yes, updating windows is strongly advised. But those patches will have more holes, we're running in circles.
(Note: I know that that's from 2004, my point is that there's no way to be 100% protected - And that I'm not using SP 2 and my computer has survived for years for some reason)

Re: A question regarding Fritz11
I personally use windows rarely, but we have a better chance of being protected in any OS if we include the manufacturer's latest patches. Yes, patches might create more holes but at least Miicrosoft would be actively fixing the latest issues. Their response time to a security hole is usually very quick. If their patch created a hole, it will be fixed very quickly as well.Ovyron wrote:"But installing SP 2 will not necessarily make a Windows XP computer safe. If your machine is not running SP2 and is still safe, most likely you have a good hardware firewall/route and luck on your side. Upgrading to SP2 will give you free access to Microsoft's latest patches. I do not see the benefit of holding back. Of course, it is probably a good idea to do a data backup before the upgrade!

Oh yes, it's probably my routershiv wrote:If your machine is not running SP2 and is still safe, most likely you have a good hardware firewall/route and luck on your side.
I think that's the main reason I'm holding back, I think the hassle is not worth it. And I bet most people just do it to feel more secure, (Like buying a life insurance doesn't decrease your chances of dying), since I already feel secure (really, if I was vulnerable I would have already been hacked) I don't see a reason for upgrading (Besides, some of my friends had problems when they got SP 2 a while ago, that made me decide to stay as I am).shiv wrote:Of course, it is probably a good idea to do a data backup before the upgrade!
