Junior being sold by chessclub.com!

Post by Eraserheads »

Now for the first time ever, we'll be able to see Junior play in an interface other than the FRITZ GUI!

ICC's 'Dasher' program will soon be able to run Junior as an analysis engine (and playing engine as well). I just hope this is the UCI version of Junior we are all waiting to see!

*****************************************
Junior Engine Special

Now you can super-charge ICC Dasher and obtain the most reliable analysis from the World Champion "Junior" chess engine. Junior is considered by many to be the strongest and most human-like of all the computer engines. Deep Junior drew a match with Kasparov, won a match with Radjabov, and, last summer, won a FIDE-organized match against Deep Fritz 4-2.

We are offering Junior at an EXCLUSIVE price for ICC-members only. The single-processor version (Junior) is available for $29.95 and the multi-processor version (Deep Junior) is available for $49.95. These prices are less than half of what you might pay from other vendors!

Even better, during the month of March only, if you sign up for a new ICC membership or renew an existing membership for a year or more, we'll take a further $10-20 off, bringing the price down to $19.95 for Junior and $29.95 for Deep Junior! All you need to do is sign up or renew online before purchasing Junior.

Once you are a member, it's easy to buy:

1) Download ICC Dasher 1.2.2 (Windows) for free

2) Sign into the ICC using Dasher

3) Select Purchase Junior Engine from the Web menu

After purchasing, you can download Junior to your computer for immediate use.

Junior integrates with ICC Dasher, allowing you to analyze your games or "Play vs. Computer" offline. Dasher 1.2 is a new release with more than 70 improvements over version 1.1, including player statistics, chat coloring, Vista compatilility, Atomic Chess support, and much more.

ICC Help: Junior

- Q: What is Junior?
- A: Junior is a chess-playing engine that plugs into ICC Dasher allowing you to analyze chess positions with it or play against it.

- Q: Does it work with programs other than ICC Dasher?
- A: Yes. To verify that you are a member, you must purchase it using ICC Dasher, but after that, it can be used in other programs that support the "UCI" protocol, which is the most popular standard for chess engines.

- Q: How good is it?
- A: Junior is significantly stronger than Dasher's built-in engine, Crafty. In fact, it's a many-time world champion! In June 2007 Deep Junior won FIDE's "Ultimate Computer Chess Challenge", beating Deep Fritz 4-2. Junior won the "World Microcomputer Chess Championship" twice and the "World Computer Chess Championship" three times, including the last time it entered (2006) when it was undefeated. In 2003 Deep Junior tied a match against Garry Kasparov 3-3, after which Garry said that Deep Junior consistently played better than Deep Blue. Then in 2006 it won a match against Teimour Radjabov.

- Q: How much does this super engine cost?
- A: Junior is $29.95 and Deep Junior is $49.95. This is an exclusive special offer, ONLY AVAILABLE TO ICC MEMBERS. Furthermore, we're running a March promotion: during the month of March, anyone who joins or renews with a one-year or longer membership, gets an ADDITIONAL DISCOUNT of $10 off Junior and $20 off Deep Junior!

- Q: What is the difference between Junior and Deep Junior?
- A: Junior is the single processor version. Deep Junior is the multiple processor version: if your computer has multiple processors, Deep Junior will take advantage of that to search more deeply and play more strongly. Deep Junior will run on single processor machines, but not offer any increase in speed over Junior.

- Q: How do I buy Junior or Deep Junior?
- A:
1) Download the latest version of ICC Dasher for free from: http://www.chessclub.com/helpcenter/int ... asher.html and install it.
2) Sign into the ICC using Dasher
3) Select "Purchase Junior Engine" from the Web menu. After your purchase is complete, Junior will be activated on your computer and you will be provided with a download link to the Junior installer.

- Q: What version of Dasher is required?
- A: 1.2 or higher. Go here to download the latest version of Dasher for free: http://www.chessclub.com/helpcenter/int ... asher.html

- Q: What platforms does Junior work on?
- A: It's Windows-only.

- Q: Is it available on CD-ROM?
- A: No, it's download-only at this time.

- Q: Can I install Junior on my second or third computer?
- A: Yes, up to three installations are allowed.

- Q: Can I re-download and install Junior to the same computer if I accidentally delete it?
- A: Yes.

- Q: Where can I find detailed information on using Junior or purchasing/re-installing it?
- A: While logged in, click on this link inside Dasher: http://www.chessclub.com/helpcenter/Dasher/Junior.htm

Is it already available? Buying Junior for 29.95 isnt really a deal considering that you have to get a membership for 34.95, or wait few days and get a 5 dollar student discount.

Nice.

But I am somewhat surprised to see it delivered as version 10.1.

Does it mean that no improvement over the well-known CB version has occurred since this one was published more than one year ago ?

Has junior development stopped ?

I guess its better to buy a year membership and Junior, that would cost me 80 bucks. If I were to buy the 6months membership and junior, that would be 65 bucks. May be I should just save my 15 bucks as I dont use ICC for anything.

I have read somewhere (I think it was in the Hiarcs forum) that the plan is to release (Deep) Junior 10.1 as an UCI-engine and then later this year to release (Deep) Junior 11. As far as I know Junior is being developed and I think we are all excited to see how much it has been improved (and if they have kept the very original playingstyle of Junior, I hope that).

Without a membership no uci Junior 10.1 !

Or do you think its working with a test membership??

But why charging for an engine I have already installed as Chessbase engine?

Only for uci version??

I will look forward for Deep Junior 11

Because maybe you're interested in using Junior 10.1 in the Shredder GUI, Arena, Chess Assistant, ChessPartner, ChessGUI or even Winboard!

Maybe it's interesting for those that never bought Junior 10.1.

Yes,the concept to use it as a UCI engine is very promissing, but as Werner wrote, having bought the ChessBase native engine with it's GUI and again paying money for the same engine doesn't look as a very good idea to me....

What I do not like is that Deep Junior 10.1uci is delivered
without multipv mode! (or have missunderstood something?)
I really hope for a update to fix that!
