Did anyone else receive an email from the hiarcs site saying that there will soon be a release? I wish that they would release it for free..

No reason to give it for free if people are going to buy it. Even Uri Blass recommended the Toga authors to sell the upcoming versions.

Uri gave advice to sell Toga? Wouldnt that be illegal?

No if they asked for permission to Fabian Letouzey and changed the license.

Yes. We'll get 2 engines for our money if we choose to buy:

HIARCS 12
HIARCS Paderborn 2007

I'm scraping together some clams so that I can buy HIARCS.

I would have to say that's a marketing ploy. Why would I want an older version of Hiarcs if the new version is indeed better?

It's perfectly fine to sell Toga right now, but you still have to make the source files available (including any changes you make). If all the copyright holders agreed to, a closed source Toga could be made available, but that would just cause a fork. The current Toga would always be there as competition, and anyone who wanted to could try to improve it.

Yes, agreed. Maybe there are 4 or 5 other older betas they could give us as well  Although the Paderborn version has some sentimental value to them, having won on a tie-break against Rybka, so it's understandable. I won't use it but others may well do. Something for nothing, so how can you complain really

I am not making a decision to buy because they are tossing in an extra engine. It is something for nothing, so I do find a little extra value in it.

It is fun to have different versions of engines. :D
