Hi all,
I would like to know if it is possible to make a tournament (or engine-engine match) where 1 (or several) engine would play at depth, let's say, 6 while other engines are playing at another depth (or even without restriction on the depth). I am using Arena 1.99 beta4 and Shredder GUI (the one so-called shredder classic, not the chessbase one!).
Thanks for your help!
stupid question?

Re: stupid question?
I think this is not possible!
The only way I see is a match between 2 PCs via autoplayer or network (or on 1 PC between 2 GUIs).
Here you can make different time controls for the engines.

Re: stupid question?
Thanks.
It's seems that indeed for Shredder GUI or Arena this is not possible. There is a topic on the Rybka forum that talk about that. It seems that with the chessbase GUI this is possible. At least for a 2 engines match (not a tournament). Someone can confirm this?
Thanks

Yes, you can define different dephts for the 2 engines in an eng-eng match (only).genorb wrote:Thanks.

First of all: It is not possible with the Shredder Classic GUI!
I thought about that by myself a few monthes ago but decided that it is useless as unfortunately some engines are a bit "fishy" with their shown depth because they try to hide their real search capabilities. It makes no sense to play 2 Engines with depth 7 while one of them is in reality at depth 10.

Re: stupid question?
Note that in WinBoard you can do this by making the 'sd N' command that limits the search depth of the engine to N part of the ininstring for this engine:
/firstInitString="new\nrandom\nsd 6" /secondInitString="new\nrandom\nsd 8"
/firstInitString="new\nrandom\nsd 6" /secondInitString="new\nrandom\nsd 8"

Hi Ingo.
In your last posts you talk about "fishy" and "fruity" engines.
Which engines are "fruity" and which ones are "fishy"?
Is "fruity"="fishy"?
