I wonder whether Carlsen will be able to top 2800 before he is 20. 2775 at age 18.... good grief.

Surely, He will. I predict he's gonna be world one before 21.

Could be. Right now he is going at a similar progress to Kasparov at his age.

He's 17, not 18. :)

Per Chessbase:

Ivan Cheparinov threw everything at him, but Vassily Ivanchuk defended coolly and scored final black-piece victory to clinch the 2008 MTel Masters, with 8.0/10 and a performance of 2977.

But that is only his performance, not his new rating. According to the FIDE ratings calculator he has won 27 rating points from Sofia.

From what I read yesterday ... it seems that there is 1 and 2 ELO points difference in the latest ratings between Carlsen and Ivanchuk and Topalov. If Carlsen gets in a good Tournament soon he could possibly surpass Topalov and Ivanchuk in the rating .... actually it seems that between them and the top it is around 20 ELO points .... never have the top players been so close to each other and really anyone of them could be top rated in a few months time.

I more than agree, the current list is quite strange. Between no. 7 (Rajabov) and and no. 6 (Morozevich) the difference is 30 points. Between Morozevich and Anand (no. 1) the difference is 24 points.
