Sage 3.53????

Post by Dr.Wael Deeb »

Hi all,
I've been running a series of tournaments to estimate the Elo strengh/improvement in the three engines marked below,I always include the previous version of the engine whch has at least 188 games played and a stable Elo in my rating list....
So,my point is,Sage 2.2a has won it's first 4 games in a raw and Sage 5.53 which is supposed to be a big improvement lost all it's first 4 games against the same opponents :?:
Is there somehting wrong with Sage 5.53 :!: :?:

Engine1=AliChess 4.08 i
Engine2=AliChess 4.16 i
Engine3=Chispa 4.03
Engine4=Esc 1.16
Engine5=EXChess 4.03c
Engine6=nanoSzachy 3.4
Engine7=Natwarlal 0.14
Engine8=pikoSzachy 3.0
Engine9=Rotor 0.2 i
Engine10=Sage 2.2a
Engine11=Sage 3.53
Engine12=Scidlet 3.6.18
Engine13=Zeus 1.28

I didn't notice any depth reaching problems in it's games and here is my sage.cfg file:

[Hash Size]
Hash= 128 // Max = 128

[EGTB]
TB Path= C:\Nalimov
TB Cache= 4

[BOOK]
Opening Book= 1 // 1=on - 0=off

[Piece Values]
Pawn= 100
Knight= 325
Bishop= 325
Rook= 500
Queen= 975

[Parameters]
Passed Pawn= 100
Protected Passer= 100

Any ideas guys :!: :?:

I guess so,but something is telling me that something is broken in Sage 3.53,an inner feeling,let alone the close observation....

I excluded Sage 3.53 from my tournaments,in the above one Sage 2.2a gained 5/8 while Sage 3.53 gained 0,5/8 :shock:
It can't be a random result....

Hi Wael

I don't have much time for bug hunting (just bought a new house), but i could take a quick look at your Sage 3.53 games. The only thing new in Sage 3.53 from the previous version, 3.51d, is a new bitcounting function. In my testing, this proved to be a significant improvement, so i don't understand your problems. I suspect your computer has a bug. :-)

Seriously, perhaps the bitcounting function could behave differently on different systems. Sage 3.53 seems to be doing well in Leo's Promo E tourney - http://wbec-ridderkerk.nl/html/promotion.htm.

Sage 2.2a is a much older version. Perhaps you could try version 3.51d. If you don't have it, let me know.

Could you send your 3.53 games to davedahlem[@]gmail.com? (remove the brackets)

Thanks
Dave

Thanks Dave for the reply....
YesI know that in leo's tournaments this version is a big improvement and hence my confusion about it's performance.....
Unfortunately,I am not a game collector,I take a look at the engines games to see if something is wrong and then delete them.....
I can tell you that Sage 3.53 plays good until the late middle games then it starts to sink slowly....
Please do send me the 3.51d version,I'll pm you my e-mail :D
Good luck with the new house,strange enough I moved to new one too at the begining of this month....

Cheers,
Dr.Wael Deeb

Hi Wael

Sage 3.51d sent, and also a new test version with lazy eval added. Looks good so far, I would be very interested in how it does for you.

Dave
