Hi,
This was a very nice win by Komodo 9.0 that showed complete superiority over houdini 4.0, at least in the opening that they played in this game. 11...h5 shows how komodo has really gotten more aggressive against the king. At first I thought f5 was more logical, but Komodo stumbles onto this normal plan later. It is useful to push the pawn to h3.
14...Qe7 is the best square for the queen. And then 15...f5 shows a very clear and consistent plan which is amazing for a machine.
19...c5 was a nice way of stoppingn all of white's play, leaving it with a bad position.
20..Bd8! and 21...f4 showed a very logical plan by komodo and a good breakthrough of f4 knowing that white is planless and succumbs to black's plans.
23...a6!? and 24...b5 is the start of another good plan and pawn break on the queenside, sort of bragging that komodo has all the good plans on black's side and both sidies of the board are in control by black.
With 26...Bg5 the bishop made a good maneuver from b6 to d8 to g5 where it is well placed. But the real shocker is on Komodo's next move.
27. a5? This move was a very bad mistake. Probably better although still not good for white was 27. Be4 which would avoid black's next shot out of the blue.
27...Rxf3!! I was astonished to see this beautiful exchange sacrifice, with a huge negative score for black which houdini completely missed. Idea is that after Qxf3 Bg4 Qe4 is forced (not Qxg4 Bxe3+ winning) where Qxe4 dxe4 and then the bishop comes to e2 and d3 where it can eat e4 and d5 pawns thus getting compensation. An absolutely brilliant idea. Komodo saw this stroke immediately, whereas stockfish took 29 seconds longer to find it. Houdini completely missed it with long calculations.
After 33. Rcf1 black could've won back the exchange so material is even, but it would've been a likely draw. It was very brilliant to play 33...Bd3! ignoringn getting back the exchange and rather going after the e4 and d5 pawns with a mobile pawn phalanx.
40...Rd8 and 41...d5 says "here it comes".
After 56. exd4 exd4, the rest is mopping up for black.
It was a tremendous game that I had to share. I haven't seen this exciting chess from an engine in a long time. Who thought a sacrificial engine would also be the strongest engine on the planet. This game and also one I posted below where Komodo beat Stockfish development version, Komodo sacrficed in each of the games. This one was an exchange sacrifice, and against stockfish it sacrificed two pawns in that game and won.
I hope you enjoyed this. Kudos to Mark and Larry for making huge progress with this new version of komodo.
Sincerely,
Tim.
Another great win from Komodo 9.0 over Houdini 4.0

Hi Tim
Yes, great win for Komodo 9, my favourite Engine !
I request that you also post wins against SF6/SDVs as they are closer in ELO to Komodo 9...Houdini 4 though also a very good Engine, is now a bit long in the tooth and several ELO behind the latest Engines.
Regards

I posted one against stockfish development version if you keep looking down on the forum's main page. It's still on the main page. Komodo sacrificed two pawns in that game and won.
It's pretty ridiculous though to say that Houdini which is still ranked number three ahead of gull, is not a credible match against Komodo. Houdini is tremendously strong. And as I said, I "did" post a win against stockfish development version. After over 100 games played Komodo 9.0 is beating Stockfish development version 6 wins to 2 for stockfish with several draws, at a long time control of 90 minute + 20 seconds increment for each side per game.
Sincerely,
Tim.

Hi Tim
I suggest you post all Komodo wins in this Thread only.
It will be easier that way.
I too will post some Komodo wins here, of course with your permission.
I too am a Komodo fan like you.
