Yup. Moore's law ... it was a long ride and a good one, but the game is just about over now for silicon-based chips at least.

Yeah, I've known this for a few years now. I posted to forums indicating that the new chips offer nothing but a money pit, but many refuse to believe it. So I stopped-- no skin off my nose. It isn't my job to be anyone else's mother.

My iPhone 7 performs better clock-for-clock than any Intel CPU for NPS on Stockfish.
Of course, it's just a mobile phone so it can't compete, but if the ARM design was incorporated into a desktop setup (personally I think Apple are mid-way doing this) then we could see another performance advance.
