Beautiful endgame

Post by thewhip »

How many engines can solve this endgame?
[d]6R1/8/2pB3k/2P4p/5p1q/5P2/4P1K1/8 w - - 0 1
White plays and win.
My own engine took 31 seconds to find the answer.

My engine can only find draw, even Stockfish on Lichess couldn't find better than that

These are cases in which the engines stay with a position and do not deepen other alternatives.

The solution of this Troitsky's problem is found at Yet Another Chess Problem Database:

Position was heavily discussed back in 2012 on this forum!
Does anyone know where it comes from? (Sorry, just saw the mention of it being a Troitsky study)

Seems you need to reduce nullmove pruning or use multipv analysis.

Can get this quickly with SF14 and Honey 13.2

This is what my humble engine has achieved in response.

Orloff 2.5:

Curious that almost 10 years have passed since the posting and the engines still have the same problem.
