Stockfish PV 2 vs 1

Post by Patishi »

Hi,
I was just wondering why when I set PV to 2 it can find solutions to puzzles much faster than when it's on 1, despite having more nodes per seconds when it's on 1.

Sorry to ask this. How did you set PV 2 ? In GUI or command line?

Setting 2 PV lines forces the PC to search 2 moves equally, no matter how different they are in eval. With just 1 PV, it will focus more on what lines it thinks are the best.

PV=3 seems to be even better in combinations.

I use a GUI (Pawn Appetit).
