Obisidian Chess Studio

Post by AdminX »

I do a lot of my work using Linux (Arch). So I am always on the lookout for different Linux based chess programs. One project I have been following is En Croissant. I have been able to download it and have everything working on my Linux distro with no issues. Which brings to a interesting fork project called Obsidian Chess Studio. I never was able to get a solid working compile that had no issues.

Flash forward to this morning. About a year later, same sh!t different day. So I decided to try Codex: GPT-6-Luna.

Prompt 1:

Can you compile this without using docker: https://github.com/luisrivasnoriega/Obs ... ess-Studio

47 minutes later the job as completed, not without going thru many errors along the way. So I took it for a test drive and discovered it had a optional feature called Human Strategic Report. It worked but the output was in Spanish even though my settings were set to English.

Prompt 2:

When annotating a game there is a option for Human Strategic Report. When I select it it gives me output in Spanish. I need English, Fix it

14 minutes later problem solved. However I still had issues with Time Controls (It was not using them aka blitz games)

Prompt 3:

Now I have a problem with the chess engines following the correct time control. Fix it.

15 minutes later, problem solved, But guess what, sound also did not work.

Prompt 4:

I have a problem with no sound output, Fix it

15 minutes later, It's fix did not work. So I realized I had to give it an assist.

Prompt 5:

Obsidian Chess Studio is a fork of En Croissant I believe is uses the same sound system. Can you check why it works with en-croissant and Fix it

Another 15 minutes later ..., I get the response "I found the important difference. En Croissant does not load sound files from the WebView’s bundled `/sound/...` path on Linux. It starts a small local HTTP server for those files and plays them from `127.0.0.1`. This fork still uses the WebView path, which is a likely reason its previews are silent. I’m adapting that Linux-specific path here." Finally and workable version for now. I am sure there may still be bugs yet for me to be discovered.

So that you guys can save a few Tokens I have uploaded my files here: https://mega.nz/file/8rQ1nAzD#WFsrut_VP ... yZ1LwFj4s8

The binary is located in the Obsidian-Chess-Studio/src-tauri/target/release directory. THIS IS ONLY FOR LINUX USERS. Worst case scenario you will have the modified source code to build your own version.

Enjoy!

Obsidian-Chess-Studio is an excellent tool, but I stopped using it a while ago because it has a major bug: it doesn’t recognise PGN files where you start from specific positions; every time I load a position, the tool shows me the starting position of the chessboard, so it becomes useless for analysis
