So, maybe Christophe has reconsidered his retirement;-)
In that case, gladly accepted!

I have palm 130, overclock 42 Mhz...VERSION 2009 (October 14, 2008)
* Support for high resolution graphics with high resolution
pieces sets.
* Improved chess engine: the new chess engine retains all the
strengths of the classical Tiger engine but is now 60 elo
points stronger. Most problems will be solved twice as fast
in average, and the engine will now play moves it would have
been unable to find in previous versions. For example, Chess
Tiger on a Palm T|X is now approximately 2315 FIDE Elo
(european scale) or 2515 USCF Elo (american scale).
* Display of the computer's estimated Elo strength in the
"Speed index" dialog.
VERSION 15.2 (March 18, 2004)
* PalmOS 6 compatibility.
chesstiger.prc (version 15,2) have 253 Kb.
chesstiger.prc (version 2009) have 323 Kb.
The book is similar.
I hope that some evaluations will be betters... if somebody test some positions on bt-xxxx, for "dedicate" chess computers...
knowledge ~ size file .prc

Re: Chess Tiger 2009 for Palm
what about porting it to Iphone that would be nice. I think that as phones get stronger ie more features the need for palm will diminish and the Iphone is a nice platform.

I'll agree with this. I've had three Palm units, and each has failed under moderate use after a year or two. They are too expensive for my budget unless I can be sure of getting at least five years out of one of them.eriq wrote:what about porting it to Iphone that would be nice. I do have a 16 GB iPod Touch; it's kind of the same as an iPhone but without telephony capability and it can run many of the same applications. It has plenty of computational power for a typical handheld chess program; the main difference compared to a Palm from a user standpoint is that an iPod/iPhone application interface has to use finger tap low resolution input vs higher resolution stylus input.

Re: Chess Tiger 2009 for Palm
At an introductory price of $14.95 it is very good value.
One good aspect of Chess Tiger is the trainer levels, good for those starting the game.
Why does he just release for the Palm O.S.To get new customers he would need to expand to other devices like PPC, iPhone,PSP,cellphone etc.
I suppose the Palm OS has got a niche market and it is here where he knows he can succeed, and Hiarcs has seemed to give up on any new developments for Palm since the release of PF3 fo PPC.So he could capture the whole chess market for Palm users.

I am waiting for the KEY.
It´s a good engine, I like his style. and his price.
My palm runs well, after change his battery for the battery of the old phone nokia 6060...

Novag Citrine will have problems versus the new engine ct2009... and genius too... on my palm 130m. overclock 42 Mhz...
knowledge ~ size file .prc and the new exe have a lot of more size... I will definitely get a much better chess engine... it is not only tactics takes for the horizont ply..., with a human stile, anti-human mode, and moves that I like...
I like that program, without needing enormous power of CPU, (my palm 130 it´s a dragonball cpu running low... for more long battery support) , and CHT2009 move-plays have much sense and chess-human-knowledge... And their anti-human ways work...

bye from spain. Oliver.
Re: Chess Tiger 2009 for Palm
Agreed, Chess Tiger for Palm is one of the programs I really enjoy playing against. It's moves do indeed 'feel' right; maybe it's the fact that it does not move INSTANTLY and the smooth piece animation. Anyway, it's great to see a new version of this neat little program.
Cheers,
Oscar
