I had sent the source to the author and to Jim, and then I made the source generally available.
I am pretty sure it will be easy to improve it. I am also fairly certain that using fractional plies will give a solid benefit compared to integral plies.

Re: Smooth scaling stockfish
I played a 2 + 2 match on my windows 64 quad.
Stockfish 1.6s 64 bit (Dan) +28 -10 =70 58.33% 63/108
vs
Stockfish 1.6 JA 64 bit
Stockfish 1.6s 64 bit (Dan) +28 -10 =70 58.33% 63/108

Using http://cap.connx.com/chess-engines/new- ... sh.exe.bz2
1 min + 1 sec time control
After 44 games:
20.5 Stockfish 1.6 64-bit JA 2CPU (the "official" version of Stockfish)
23.5 Stockfish above 64-bit 2CPU
The new one scored 54.44%, that is what, 20 elo?
But i've run the 32bit versions and also with 1 CPU while you the 64bit and with 2 CPUs.
After 12 games in the Silver50 suite i get original S1.6 to lead with +1 point. That contradicts in a way my previous results, but we will see in the future for sure.

Re: A request (and few nice games)
A request: It would be very nice if I would see this engine 1.6s (by Dann Corbit) for download here:
http://homepages.tesco.net/henry.ablett/jims.html
Thanks in advance!
The Engine (I played only with the 32-Bit Version, compiled by Dann Corbit - and 1.6s played very well on my only "Core Duo 2.66 GHz", against Rybka 3!!
Here few nice games from Playchess with my Account "Solist":

Very good played by Stockfish 1.6s (compiled version by Dann Corbit)!
My Best,
Eduard
http://homepages.tesco.net/henry.ablett/jims.html
Thanks in advance!
The Engine (I played only with the 32-Bit Version, compiled by Dann Corbit - and 1.6s played very well on my only "Core Duo 2.66 GHz", against Rybka 3!!
Here few nice games from Playchess with my Account "Solist":

Where is the 32bit JA version with new changes ?Jim Ablett wrote:George Tsavdaris wrote:Dann's for sure.Werner wrote:Hi Dan,Dann Corbit wrote:I sent the sources to Tord and Jim Ablett. Here is my MS 64 bit compile (the other one is Jim's and I have actually been testing my build and so I do not know if they behave differently):
http://cap.connx.com/chess-engines/new- ... sh.exe.bz2
I will make a 32 bit compile also.
there is a difference in your 64bit compile and in that of Jim. Did you use the same sources for your compiles?
And which version should we use?
I think he forgot to tell Jim about enabling some options to make the compile so Jim's compile is not how it was supposed to be.
In my computer i get in most positions +2 ply in the same time for Dann's S1.6 compared to normal S1.6 and with comparable evaluations(but not the same and this is that puzzles me).
Hi George,
Yes, I didn't know about the necessary macro.
Here's is my re-compiled Stockfish 1.6s x64 JA compile which
uses Dann's enhancements.

Re: 30 games- Smooth Stockfish versus Rybka 3.
After seeing 100 games from the pairs:
Dann's Stockfish 1.6 32 bit - Stockfish 1.6 32 bit (40 games)
Dann's Stockfish 1.6 32 bit - Rybka 3 32bit (30 games)
Stockfish 1.6 32 bit - Rybka 3 32bit (30 games)
Results clearly say that the modified Smooth Stockfish 1.6 32bit is stronger than the original unmodified. But there are the confidence intervals, the confidence levels, only 30 games, etc....
But by seeing the games one by one i can clearly say that the modified version is stronger! It just plays stronger, period. I can't say how much stronger of course and speak about concrete ELOs from my observations, i just see that it plays in the level of Rybka 3 and that it is stronger, i can even say a lot than the original.
Sometimes seeing a Chess game can tell you more from some raw numbers/results. Nonsense? Probably but i had that feeling now....
Perhaps it was the predefined positions that made this to be true and with another set of opening positions, the result and my opinion would be different, but i don't believe that.
Anyway here are the results(All with time control 4'+2" and for 32bit Stockfish and Rybka):
►Set-1(5 positions):
65% or +108 ELO for Dann's 32bit version over original.
55% or +35 ELO for Dann's 32bit version over Rybka 3.
65% or +108 ELO for Rybka 3 over original Stockfish 1.6.
The last 2 match results are particularly interesting.
►Set-2(15 positions):
66.7% or +120 ELO for Dann's 32bit version over original.
10 games remaining. Still running....
52.5% or +17 ELO for Dann's 32bit version over Rybka 3.
10 games remaining. Still running....
60% or +70 ELO for Rybka 3 over original Stockfish 1.6.
Thats is for 32bit and 1 CPU.
Perhaps for 64bit and 2 or 4 CPU things are different. Or perhaps things are different for 32bit also and it was the predefined positions i made them run and with other different positions things would be completely different.

►Set-1(5 positions):
Code: Select all
Stockfish 1.6s 32bit ½½½1111½½0 6.5/10
Stockfish 1.6 JA 32bit ½½½0000½½1 3.5/10
Code: Select all
Stockfish 1.6s 32bit ½½½01½½110 5.5/10
Rybka 3 1-cpu 32-bit ½½½10½½001 4.5/10
Code: Select all
Rybka 3 1-cpu 32-bit 11½10½01½1 6.5/10
Stockfish 1.6 JA 32bit 00½01½10½0 3.5/10
The last 2 match results are particularly interesting.
►Set-2(15 positions):
Code: Select all
Stockfish 1.6s 32bit ½½11½½½111010½111½½½½½½110½11½ 20.0/30
Stockfish 1.6 JA 32bit ½½00½½½000101½000½½½½½½001½00½ 10.0/30
Code: Select all
Stockfish 1.6s 32bit ½½10½1½½0½½½½½110½½½ 10.5/20
Rybka 3 1-cpu 32-bit ½½01½0½½1½½½½½001½½½ 9.5/20
52.5% or +17 ELO for Dann's 32bit version over Rybka 3.
Code: Select all
Rybka 3 1-cpu 32-bit 1½1½10½½11½0½½½1½10½ 12.0/20
Stockfish 1.6 JA 32bit 0½0½01½½00½1½½½0½01½ 8.0/20
60% or +70 ELO for Rybka 3 over original Stockfish 1.6.
Thats is for 32bit and 1 CPU.
Perhaps for 64bit and 2 or 4 CPU things are different. Or perhaps things are different for 32bit also and it was the predefined positions i made them run and with other different positions things would be completely different.

Notice that the link you gave yesterday had another version.Edward German wrote:My Version I found here:Nasir_Shaheen wrote:

32bit also. But it was another "less smooth" version. The current link contains again a 32bit Stockfish but modified.

Re: Smooth scaling stockfish
1st update from DC for 32bit Stockfish 1.6s
32bit version Scales null move smoothly 328 KB (336,384 bytes)
2nd update
32bit version slightly smoother scaling 326 KB (333,824 bytes)
I have both if anyone wants a link but the differences small i guess.

I do not know which version 32-Bit this is, but I scored on my only Core Duo 2.6 Ghz on playchess with it very well! It works very good on my PC.George Tsavdaris wrote:Notice that the link you gave yesterday had another version.Edward German wrote:My Version I found here:Nasir_Shaheen wrote:
