DR4 - Fire 1.3 - Houdini - Ivanhoe-B63Mod12c

Post by Tomcass »

Gui: Aquarium
Time 5 min/game
Two cores
Book: Rybka Wide

1st. Test

Deep Rybka 4 - Houdini 5-5
Houdini - IVANHOE-B 63Mod12c 5-5
IVANHOE-B 63Mod12c Deep Rybka 4 4,5 - 5,5

DR4 won, but all three engines extremely even.

2nd. Test

Same gui, TC , computer and book. Including Fire 1.3 (No triplebases for any engine)

Deep Rybka 4 - Houdini 6,5 - 13,5 (!!!!!)
IVANHOE-B 63Mod12c - Fire 1.3 6,5 - 13,5
Deep Rybka 4 - Fire 1.3 13,0 - 7,0
Houdini - IVANHOE-B 63Mod12c 13,0 - 7,0
IVANHOE-B 63Mod12c - Deep Rybka 4 11,5 - 8,5
Fire 1.3 - Houdini 12,0 -8,0

Overall:

Houdini: 34,5 / 60
Fire 3.1: 32,5 / 60
Deep Rybka4 28,0 / 6
IVANHOE-B 63Mod12c 25,0 / 60

My feelings:

- Houdini is the best engine in two cores matches (Confirming preivous results from other testers)
- Vas has tuned DR4 very well against Fire.
- I will test Fire 1.31 using Robbo and Triple bases

Regards,

Tom.

Vas tunes Rybka against Rybka. Why on earth would he tune against FB anyhow?

The answer is very obvious, Albert. Look at the posted results and be realistic, please.

I didnt see anything obvious. You ran 30 games in non-controlled circumstances (wide book) and decided this held some kind of statistical evidence. If that were true then CEGT's first 30 games, giving Rybka 4 a +150 Elo jump, would mean ... exactly that. And mind you, they use repeated openings.

As to Firebird's loss, and Houdini's win, it could easily have been the other way around. I think you give the clones too much credit. I doubt Vas gives them that much attention as it would detract from his work and family life.

I'm afraid you are wrong, Albert. My tests include always hundreds - and sometimes thousands- of games. I have been testing for the last ten years with my three computers (currently two, four and eight cores) and my feelings usually -not always of course- are right. Why do you say that I have run 30 games?. My preliminary test includes 150 games. (!!). And not one minute games, but 5 minutes games in R4 environment.

The evidence -from many other testers- is that Houdini is stronger than DR4 in one or two cores. My test simply confirm this fact. So please Albert, open your eyes and make sure what you are talking about before commenting my opinions.

Tom.

... by the way, I love all these 'derivative' -non clone!- engines. But I have paid 110€ to Vas to get DR4.

Of course. My mistake. How could I not realize that 10 games plus 20 games equals 150 games which in turn equates to thousands of games. You got me.

On my Core 2 Duo 2.66 GHz are Houdini 1-cpu and 2-cpu the best engines. Houdini has so far defeated all the other engines! Houdini is up to 2 cores the best engine in the world (for now)!

Have a nice day!

For me, Test 1 (30 games) plus Test 2 (120 games) equals 150 games. But I accept that your addition gives you a different result. No problem.

Please smile and enjoy computer chess, Albert.
