Hi Harun,

thats easy to answer (your SCHACHWELT question).

I don't have problems with GM Jörg Hickl, only that the print issue of SCHACHWELT is ending / lay off. On the webpages Jörg working only. So, why I should work on webpages only. I do that some years with Frank's Chess Page, Arena, Gambit-Soft, Millennium webpages and so on.

My interest goes to work on reviews other things for a chess magazine. OK, I do in the time, I work for Jörg, a lot for his webpages but I saw it in combination with the print issue (rating list, SWCR is public by the magazine in the past too). It's important for myself that readers in chess clubs will get more information about strong chess engines, like Stockfish, Spark ... most of the chess player know Fritz, Shredder, Rybka, Junior.

ChessBase do a good work in Germany, created good products but in newspager no many other information about strong amateurs / freeware is available. So I am thinking ... I try a little bit ... software for kids, learning programs, engines for the club players, correspondence players, playing style discription and so on.

On the day I gave up my work I reactivated my older domain "amateurschach.de - Frank's Chess Page" and add the SWCR (SCHACHWELT computer ratings) on my own page. Because it was a shame to stop the ratinglist SWCR to this time. A shame why I pay a lot for the 4 quad machines from my own money.

Buy 3 new quad machines and 1 month later to stop the rating list? Now I have the SWCR only ... but I wrote it before ... its enough for myself.

Weal,

but important is the ponder mode. I am not sure if Fire 1.1 is playing with a correct ponder mode. I test Fire 1.0 Beta privat, works but crashed different times in matches with ponder = on. Fire 1.31 works fine so far.

You are sure that Fire 1.1 WD works fine with ponder = on?

Hi Frank,
To tell you the truth,I test with ponder off and I have almost zero crashes....something like 1-2 crashes out of 600 games....

Hi Frank,

Just read that on the magazine page: "Mit Ausgabe 07/2010 erscheint
SCHACHWELT zum letzten Mal. " :( All clear then. I mostly agree with
you that the general public does not know what happens in cc industry.
Exceptions are Fritz, Rybka, ChessMaster, and some others..

Re: Fire 1.1 WD x64 / Houndin 1.03a x64

Hi Wael,

I added a message on my webpage (Actual / Aktuell message 041).

Houdini crasht on 3 of my 4 Quad core systems on 4 times. Bad for my automatically still running SWCR tournaments. So I have to replaced Houdini 1.03a x64 with Fire 1.1 WD 1.1 x64.

In the next SWCR-64 tournament will play now again 2 programs from the IPP family:

Fire 1.1 WD x64
Latest version of IvanHoe x x64

Other problem:
Have a look in the settings of Fire 1.1. Fire 1.31 played to fast moves with ponder hits. The time management of Fire 1.31 isn't very good. I believe you can changed that with a setting.

I hope you can send a version with a setting which produced a good time management in ponder = on mode.

The next tournament started around September 25th, 2010. So you have a little bit time Weal :-)

Thanks!

Best

Hi Harun,

yes, thats the problem with SCHACHWELT.

My latest work ... a big review to the Aquarium GUI I abort for around three months. Also a work for the more as 1.000 pages book from Emanuel Lasker. What for a great book, the best I hold in my hand. I got it in January to my birthday from my girlfriend and I am reading now a long time in this book. So, I would like to write a book report for SCHACHWELT. I abort this work too ... after my work for Jörg / SCHACHWELT ended.

Hi Wael,

I made different analyzes on a fifth quad core system I have with the Houdini and Fire games.

I compare different of this analyzes with Rybka 2 / 3 / 4.

1. Houdini
Produced many critical moves Rybka plays too. In endgames perhaps a very little bit stronger.

2. Fire
Other engine, too many other moves if I compare with the Rybka 2 / 3 / 4. I collect Rybka 3 / 4 blunders from SWCR games. Fire don't play the most of it. Rybka don't play the two blunders I have from the SWCR Fire 1.31 games. Fire produced more remis games in endgames Rybka 3 / 4 wins.

I don't have fun with Houdini, Fire is after all what I saw OK I think (don't have enough games so far). Clear is, that Houdini 1.03a is around 30-50 ELO stronger as Fire 1.31.
