I will post the results and standings after each round, giving a link to the PGN.

If you install TLCV (Tom's Live Chess Viewer) on your computer, you can watch the games live move by move. You'll also be able to chat to others following the tournament in the chatroom there.

Thanks for trying the suggested setting for Tornado, Graham - it should be fun to see what happens :)

(Please remember to leave the Use Playlevel box unchecked, as I mentioned in the other thread/forum)

Also, interesting to see Robbolito competing, and do I see an MP version of Hannibal in there ?

Regards,
Carl

Yes - remembered that. :)

Robbolito - well it's a non-CCRL tournament, so why not?
And yes - Hannibal 20121202 64-bit 8CPU is a trial MP version.

Another superb tournament.

Thanks Graham.

8 cores is really good. I don't know the particular book, however.

I have been in consultation with David Taylor, co-author of a recent opening book on the Ponziani.

With his help, I have hand tuned the previous Ponziani book that I had constructed for use under ChessGUI, removing some lines altogether, changing a few existing ones and adding in a few new lines.

As fans of the Ponziani, we're both hoping that the engines might find some new contributions to opening theory.

I never really understood. Maybe i have a mistake.

Isn't 40 moves in 29 minutes with 8 cores, similar to 40 moves in 58 minutes with 4 cores?

(and if so, why not give it a little longer for the moves, seeing that one has already invested the money for 8 cores, to atleast make the moves stronger too. Surely to get 8 cores for chess, isn't all about saving time to get in even more thousands of games, quicker).

I suppose the idea is to test how well engines do on 8 cores. Some engines are better at using 8 threads than others. This depends on the quality of their multi-processing implementation.

So in this case, it is preferable to have relatively short time controls, for the differences to be felt better?
