CSVN 1st Open Internet Tournament: last call

Post by mvk »

This weekend we will run the 1st CSVN open internet tournament on HGM's server. Time control is 45 minutes/game.

HGM's server change:
First, a very important note for participants:
  • 1. HGM's server has changed! (new address: winboard.nl port 5000)
    2. accounts need to be re-registered with HGM! (mail to h.g.muller (atsign) hccnet (dot) nl)
Participants:
Thus far, I expect at least 8 participants:
Rookie
The Baron
Arasan
Nightmare
Waduuttie
Goldbar
PuppetMaster
Spartacus? (not confirmed)
In case of an otherwise odd number of players: POS will be added.

But, the more the merrier, and therefore we're extending the deadline for registering for the tournament to 15 minutes before the start of round #1. But mind that you probably need to establish an account, so be early if you haven't got one yet.

Schedule reminder
Times are in Amsterdam time (UTC+2), except when indicated otherwise.

Saturday, May 10
15:30 ~ 17:00 -- Round 1 (13:30 UTC; 9:30am Eastern Daylight Time)
17:00 ~ 18:30 -- Round 2
18:30 ~ 19:00 -- Break
19:00 ~ 20:30 -- Round 3

20:30 ~ 21:00 -- Break
21:00 --> HGM's monthly blitz tournament! (May 2014)

Sunday, May 11
14:00 ~ 15:30 -- Round 4 (12:00 UTC; 8:00am Eastern Daylight Time)
15:30 ~ 17:00 -- Round 5
17:00 ~ 18:30 -- Round 6
18:30 ~ 19:00 -- Break
19:00 ~ 20:30 -- Round 7

See you all tomorrow!

I would love to participate but our supply of electricity here is not stable, experiencing an average of 3 brownouts per day usually ranges 10 to 20 minutes per brownouts. Added to that internet connection is not going well too. Good luck to all participants.

I'd like to participate as well, but I can't guarantee I'll be available for the whole two days unfortunately.

I've sent an email yesterday for an account but I still don't have it. Otherwise I perhaps would join the blitz tournament. Although I like to watch Eurovision song contest too.

I also can't watch chess online in church. Not appropriate.

There are a couple of solutions for that.
I would like to suggest that it is not strictly neccessary to follow what is happening. E.g. you can log it in and leave it running while you do other things.

I didn't realise it was all automated by mamer on the server. I could have entered an engine.

I don't understand: all engines still run on their own machine don't they ?

Indeed, the programs run at home, and it is advisable they have some supervision in case something goes wrong. Mamer automates the tourney when everything works flawlessly, but if games are adjourned because of disconnects, they have to be restarted by hand, etc.

Nevertheless, sneaking out part of the time is usually not fatal.
