Well I tried two threads and it was not any better but when I try 4 threads I saw an improvements up to 2200 kN/s, but I decided to use MCTS, the final position was losing for Komodo, but according to Mauricio he asked for a draw and I accepted, because at the very beginning he told me if I come close to only 20 seconds even if I am winning I will offer a draw because from experience the engine will play extremely fast without blundering but there is no way for me to beat the engine and finding the best moves with less than 20 seconds. Finally thought is that GM Lenderman will still need to remove on of his b7, c7,d7, or e7 pawn with Chess960 to make it competitive even with your super fast 32 cores system
Larry can you or your son play to us at least one game Versus your 32 core with this Chess960 Position. We would like to see how convincing your system WIN with this position using all that calculating power with the MCTS version or even a bigger surprise with your NN version, we only hear rumors but never seeing any game of your NN komodo yet. Or even better using this position pit your regular version against the MCTS or the NN version for comparison reason playing both side but without taking the knight off if it is engine vs engine , unless you use a weaker computer with black then keep this position against your 32 core monster computer just to compare:roll:

Yes, I can play a game against it on my 32 core myself from that position at 15' + 10" with the MCTS version. I lose more than I win at FRC knight odds with K on this hardware at this time limit, but the most frequent result is draw. We did play our last match vs. FM Larry Gilden with the NN version, so there are games with it posted on talkchess, but it's not in proper shape to use for a test right now. Playing normal K vs. MCTS from an even position is pointless, we already have thousands of games that show that regular K is about 80 elo stronger, it doesn't much matter whether it's normal chess or 960. Playing the 32 core against a 1 core at knight odds also won't work, as we have lots of tests that show that this sort of hardware advantage only offsets something like pawn and move odds, not nearly knight odds. Normal Komodo at bullet vs. Komodo Level 23 is reasonably close at knight odds, so you could also try having your friend play normal chess (15' + 10" with Komodo level 23 (not MCTS) to see who is stronger. Komodo level 23 will move instantly, so game takes only half the time of a knight odds game with full strength komodo.
Thanks, I just found the Link when you posted those games of Komodo NN Vs FM Larry Gilden

OK, I played a second game against the same 32 core machine, same time limit (15' + 10"), but this time using standard Komodo. I won rather easily (although a very long game) by closing the game and building up a slow attack. I don't know if the switch from MCTS to standard K made the difference, or whether I just learned from the first game more about how to play this position with an extra piece, or if it was just luck. It does suggest to me that we need to make Komodo strive more for an open position in these handicap games. But we don't want to allow easy simplification to an endgame either, no easy solution.

Therefore, you should NOT play two games using the same position against GM Lenderman. Tell him that the position will always be different for each game, unless you switch using the regular Komodo for one position and the MCTS for the second game using the same position.

Re: Komodo vs. GM Lenderman match; "Almost a knight"

Post by Chessqueen »

I decided to play a game with Rook odds, and removing my g pawn at 10" + 5' time control. I believe that even by removing my g pawn the Rook odds was too much for Komodo to give away Komodo 13.3 Resigned

Rook odds always means the queen's rook, so that normal (kingside) castling is still possible for White. You should try again that way. You could compare normal Komodo with Komodo MCTS that way. After reviewing my own game with K mcts I am somewhat inclined to believe that Komodo MCTS would have given me more trouble. It tends to choose moves that look harder for me to meet. Regarding the Lenderman match, we never intended to repeat any of the chess960 positions. The only games that will be duplicates are the NBCNODDS games, since these four normal games without Black castling can only vary the choice of knight, so two repeat opening positions are unavoidable. We can vary mcts mode or some other option, or even the first move via a one-move opening book.

Okay I tried it, but a Rook is a Rook, no matter if I give the b7 pawn or the g7 pawn

This game I was destroying Komodo, but I lost on time

In this game your move 10...Ke7?? appears to be a mouse-slip, I can't imagine any player over 1200 choosing that move at any time control. After that your advantage drops to the range where I would expect only a GM would beat Komodo, but somehow you kept the win in hand until the time out. Very strange! Was Contempt set for this game? I suppose it was normal Komodo, not mcts. If so perhaps you could try vs. mcts to compare. Somehow normal Komodo doesn't seem so good at giving these big handicaps. Maybe we made a mistake in switching to normal Komodo at the halfway mark vs. Smerdon.

Re: Komodo vs. GM Lenderman match; "Almost a knight"

Post by Chessqueen »

I did it because I forgot to tell the GUI that I could castle and it did not let me castle so I played it anyway knowing that I was ahead in material with no immediate bad consequence.

Here is another game with the g7 pawn removed, and Komodo resigned. I honestly believe that unless GM Lenderman give Komodo a pawn even with chess960 he should give a pawn in every game, Komodo would NOT have a chance. Now if Lenderman was rated like Jorge Sammour FIDE 2457 with your 32 core then on Chess960 without given Komodo a pawn odds it Might draw most of the games.

What was your Contempt setting for this game? The way Komodo just let you trade queens early suggests to me that you were just using default (16). It should at least be 150 for handicaps of a knight or more. If you are just using default Contempt these games don't tell us anything, Komodo can't give big handicaps without a high Contempt setting.
