There can be a tiny computer into the shoe.
With the foot pressing the button and the computer giving back the moves in a code.
With 2 shoes it would even be much easier because one foot could input a-h while other shoe is 1-8.
Of course this is not possible in blitz games. Because input and output takes time.
But in longer time control games you can operate the tiny computer in the shoe.

It's Entirely Possible/Likely That This IS the type of Device we are Looking For Called "Chess Talisman Engine"
based on the Info company had a Web Page and a You tube page (Both Closed down Recently September?) It looks like some top players were using the "engine system" with very excellent results...strangely all of the Chat was in Turkish
