Hi.
That would be another challenge.
But I would rather begin in the 1600-1800 range.
If I win, then I gain confidence to face stronger engines.
If I lose, then I realize that I am not really good enough to play against the engines you suggest.
Greetings.

Hi.
Now, the game against Komodo, taking the f7 pawn.
A win for me.
Komodo chose an interesting setup, leaving my extra pawn in the center, with pawn islands on both sides of the board.
After 18. b4 I had unlimited waiting moves with Ke4-Kd4, so at that point I felt very confident about the win.

Hi.
Now, the game against Lc0, taking the g7 pawn.
A win for me.
12... e5 surprised me, but it was nice to make a capture en passant.
Lc0 went after my pawns with 16... Kf4, which I think had not happened in this challenge.
Fortunately, I had the resource 23. Qa4, forcing the exchange of the newly promoted queens.

Re: Pawn endinge challenge: human vs engines.
Hi.
Now, the first game against Stockfish, taking the h7 pawn.
A draw.
When I played 15. c4, I missed 19... e5. I do not feel bad about it: this is already as much as I can calculate in a rapid game.
Instead of 19. Kb4, I also considered 19. b3 and 19. b4; I have no idea which one is best.
21... a3 surprised me. I played 22. ba3, but also considered 22. Ka3. Again, I do not know what is best. 22. Ka3 keeps my pawn structure intact, but gives Stockfish the chance to play 22... d3.
I was quite sure I was not going to lose the queen ending, being three pawns up. But the truth is, that is already way too complicated for me; I have no chance of converting successfully a complex queen ending against an engine.
36. Qa6 is a simple mistake that leads to an immediate draw (missed it); but again, I was not finding any way to make progress.
By the way, I think I would have excellent winning chances in this queen ending against a human around my strength.

This was the last game of the first round in this challenge.
I will post a summary of results before proceeding with the second round.
Greetings.

Re: Pawn endinge challenge: human vs engines.
Hi.
This is a summary of the results after the first round of the challenge.
I played 40 games in this first round.
0 losses.
9 draws.
31 wins.
In total, I dropped 4.5 points.
First, I will list the games I drew.
Stockfish, e7 pawn.
Komodo, h7 pawn.
Lc0, a7 pawn.
Stockfish, g7 pawn.
Komodo, b7 pawn.
Berserk, e7 pawn.
Komodo, g7 pawn.
Stockfish, a7 pawn.
Stockfish, h7 pawn.
In general, I feel that I played well.
Only in the game against Stockfish, taking the a7 pawn, I feel that I made a mistake that is well below my playing level; I wanted to kick myself.
In other games I made mistakes, but I think that they correspond to my playing strength; I do not feel bad about them
I played 8 games against each engine. Points dropped against each one:
Berserk: 0.5
Crafty: 0.0
Komodo: 1.5
Lc0: 0.5
Stockfish: 2.0
Removing each black pawn, I played 5 games. Points dropped:
a7 pawn: 1.0
b7 pawn: 0.5
c7 pawn: 0.0
d7 pawn: 0.0
e7 pawn: 1.0
f7 pawn: 0.0
g7 pawn: 1.0
h7 pawn: 1.0
I think it makes sense to group them. Points dropped against:
rook pawns: 2.0
knight pawns: 1.5
bishop pawns: 0.0
central pawns: 1.0
Second round follows.
The next game is against Stockfish, taking the e7 pawn.

I already played a queen odds challenge against Crafty, Komodo, Lc0 and Stockfish (I won all games).
Let me finish first this pawn ending challenge.
After it, I will look for new challenges.
Greetings.

Hi.
I already played a queen odds challenge against Crafty, Komodo, Lc0 and Stockfish (I won all games).
Let me finish first this pawn ending challenge.
After it, I will look for new challenges.
Greetings.[/pgn]

Re: Pawn endinge challenge: human vs engines.
Hi.
Now, the second game against Stockfish, taking the e7 pawn.
A win for me.
This time, in the first moves I focused on centralizing my king (in the first game, I advanced my pawns too quickly, and it ended in a draw).
It was quite a long game. 43 moves, considering that the initial position is already an ending.
But I was playing safe, advancing my pawns only when I felt it gave Stockfish no chances.

The next game is against Komodo, taking the h7 pawn.
Greetings.

Hi.
I already played a queen odds challenge against Crafty, Komodo, Lc0 and Stockfish (I won all games).
Let me finish first this pawn ending challenge.
After it, I will look for new challenges.
Greetings.[/pgn]![]()
It is difficult to make that kind of indirect comparisons.
And I am sure it depends a lot on the time control.
Let's say that engine X is about my strength at standard time control. Then it is better than me at rapid games, and much better at blitz.
The quality of play decreases more for humans than for engines with shorter time controls.
Unfortunately, I do not have time to play standard games. I have to play rapid.
Oh, about blitz, I am too clumsy with the mouse; I risk just misclicking by moving too fast.
Even when I know which move to make, I can easily take more than one second to perform it in the computer.
And if try to move faster, I fall into mouse slips.
Greetings.
