Totally off topic here but maybe one person did not read yet at Ed's forum that Mark created a UCI Crafty that scores 100% against the HCE. Not a big surprise maybe. But too strong says Mark, so it will not be released. Legend or myth in the making. How strong was it really (only ten games were played) This just trolling but maybe more fun than all the AI by incompetent and anonymous programmers. Ah I see in the mean time there were changes made and a new Crafty is already in the making, one like the old using its search like Crafty but then maybe something really strong. Is it true? We will see...

As an experiment I do not think Bob would have any problem with that. This is what computerchess is for as an academic exercise. Learning, experimenting, passing on what you learn and always giving credit where it is due. Giving sources and what you did. He would be all for it. Just that in a competition, like IGCA, Crafty would be his program, he competes with Crafty unless given express permission that someone else participates or uses code from Crafty, again only with express permission if that would be the case. And we know those things were violated in the past.

But that is just my two cents.

This is an important distinction... Some engines are not very fast, but they are stronger players given the time ( the usual compromise). I noticed that testing a lot of lower rated engines...
