Beauty, variety and a chance!

Aaaah Yes
you have good taste Matt
also known as the Elite A/G Mobile Master..(named for a tournament it won in Mobile Alabama)
and with a Spracklen program to boot
in addition it is also considered rare because Fidelity quickly improved the program in the dual screen A/G housing with the Par Program so not many were sold with the Mobile program

I am soooo Confused Regards

IIRC, this model announced a mate-in-7 during the Mobile tournament against a USCF master.

Excellent memory and Correct!
in fact it beat two USCF Rated masters at that tournament
it was the 1985 US Open held in Mobile

Leaning towards the EAG MM Regards

Hello Steve,
Steve B wrote:on the other hand ..the Elite Private Line which would be the lowest rated computer participating (and a fairly good bet for last place)is easily in the top 25 of rarest computers ever sold and as far as i know there has never been a recorded tournament with a Private Line participating
an Elite Private participated in Klingenberg 2007 and became 14th out of 20 (which were mostly (if not all) much higher rated)

If i were you, i would take the Fidelity TM only, if it is already open! Because every time, you open it, it could kill the connection cable...

Similar to a Savant, which was still working, when you switched it on last time 25 years ago...

close to Klingenberg 2009 regards,

I agree (assuming you want a Spracklen program). You could go
for the Mach IIc which increases the odds a little, but if you are going
to do this from home then go for the elegant approach with the
Avantgarde.

At a rating of 1949, you would be 50 points down at worse.
The odds on 1949 vs 1999 are 43 to 57. So, you have a 43%
chance of winning any given game against the highest possible
rated opponent. The Mach IIc changes the odds to 46-54.

Now, if you are not stuck on a Spracklen program, then
1994 Mephisto Dallas 68000 12 MHz Richard Lang 68000, 12 MHz, 16 Bit Add

That gives tres bon chance and elegance assuming you have an
elegant board for the module. There is only one entry with a Lang
program. I like this one!

I am not bashing the Spracklen's. I am noticing more variety
in this range from Lang and Ed.

Hmmm
i didnt realize that a Privat participated in a tournament Robert thanks
However i am thinking of the Private Line which i believe runs at an even slower clock speed(3.5 Mhz) then the 5.0 Mhz Privat so it would probably preform even worse
however i know from the Getgo i will probably come in dead last with it and herein lies the dilemma
History and Humiliation
OR
Run-o-the-mill Chess computers but the pious glory of winning

thankfully my TM still works although i do have another one which is ...
Kaput Regards

while i could use the Mephisto Munchen S board (a full tournament sized auto-sensory )for the Dallas program.. sadly the program is already taken by another participant
The Mondial XL is the same Dallas Program by Lang and with the same rating

i am starting to waiver on the Moble Master
while it is both elegant and strong(for this tournament) it does have a rather rich recorded history in terms of recorded games

Mach IIc you say??
Hmmm Regards

I acquired one of these at an auction last year. Sadly, I had to disconnect the speaker since it would beep constantly when turned on, probably due to corruption in the voice subsystem. How can I tell whether it has the Mobile or Par program inside? (It is EAG Model 6081, serial 60387602)

(Spracklen trivia: after their chess career, they settled in my home state, in Eugene, Oregon, where they went on to program sewing machines.

Spracklen rumor: Kathy nee Shannon *might* be the granddaughter of Claude E. Shannon. I'd love to get confirmation of that one way or the other.)

it is a Mobile Master
the EAG Par is model number 6088

you can see other Fidelity model numbers here:
http://www.zanchetta.net/echecs/ReferencesFidelity.aspx

interesting info on the Spracklens
would be very interesting indeed if Kate Spracklen were Shannon's granddaughter but i have never heard that
will try to research that

here is a video of an interview Kate gave in 1985 for the TV Series the Computer Chronicles

I remember getting a mailer from Fidelity advertising 68000 based EAG, but you could select your chip, e.g. 68020, 68030. You could also choose a dual-CPU version of either chip, IIRC. Very expensive, of course. Have you ever seen a dual-CPU version of the EAG?
