I have already a working account on FICS, but I will quickly check tonight to make sure it is functional. Just to double check: it starts 7 am UTC+1, correct? that will make it 1 am EST ( midnight Chicago time) if I am not mistaken. That means, I may need to go to sleep at some point leaving the account unattended. I feel pretty confident that it won't be a problem with the script I wrote. I tested before with HGM's tourneys and leaving the computer unattended for even a day on FICS an ICC. Is there going to be a problem? Will you be able to start up the matches? should I send you a zippy password? Is it even allowed to leave it unattended?

If the author/operator has to nod off for a round or two, that is fine. They would just need to make sure someone has the zippy password to start a game, or resign a game if played between rounds.
I will send you and probably someone else a zippy password.
My only concern is if the connection dies and no one is there to restart the client, I would have to forfeit the game to your opponent.
That should not be a problem because I have everything on a script that reloads automatically. If the connection dies for a long time, there is nothing I can do even if I am there. If there is a short blackout, the computer will be in a battery backup for at least 30 min.
hgm wrote:Do you have a different mamer than the open-source version, then? The one I got with Lasker-2.2.3 was absolute cr*p. When player A had had three blacks in a row, and player B three whites, it would happily pair A with black against B with white...
Turned out it did not only fail to update the 'consecutiveWhites' and 'consecutiveBlacks' counters each round, but was also actively clearing them before every round...
I will have to ask the mamer programmer if this problem still exists.
In running 70+ tournaments on FICS, I have never seen this happen.
I was kicked out of Chapters because I moved all the Bibles to the fiction section.
