Hello dear Frank,

Thanks a lot for your sharing this Great Tournament

Right now i have noticed that the current standings of the groups 1/2/3 are already clear

As i expected...

Group 1:Houdini
Group 2:Rybka
Group 3:IvanHoe

And i wonder a lot about what will be the 1st standings of the rest groups

In my my estimation for the next rounds:
Group 4:Stockfish
Group 5:Critter
Group 6:Naum (Hiarcs 13.2 has chances too)
Group 7:Zappa or Komodo (its very hard to estimate, everything can happen in the current group)
Group 8:Shredder

Lets see ...i have no patience to see the final standings

In other words, the World FootBall Cup 2010 Championship is still continuing :)

Best Wishes,
Sedat

Hi Sedat,

yes, it's really a great tourney and all engines played nice computer chess. Unfortunately, I forget to delate the "gtb" directory in Critter's engine directory. Critter 0.90 x64 plays the first round with 4-pices GaviotaBases. I am thinking to delate it in UCI configuration is enough. The latest two days I am not at tome and so I don't saw it.

But all games Critter won are clear before Critter used 4-pieces GaviotaBases, so no other results without this little mistake by myself. I changed it for round 2!

A very nice short games played Spark 1.0 x64 vs. SmarThink 1.2.0 x64.

And, Stockfish 2.0.1 JA x64 could not win without endgame databases vs. Spark 1.0 x64 with KNB-K. This should be check by the Stockfish team.

Have fun with my tourney Sedat!
From round to round more dramatic, more games and let us see which engines will reached Round 2 / Round 3 :-)

Best
Frank

PS:
I think is really a goal to organize this event without endgame databases. OK, made a little mistake in Critter configuration but important too is to find engine mistakes with such games with longer time controls ... think so! More or less a little beta test with the TOP-32 directly!

Hello dear Frank,

Yes...that's true i feel big pleasure with you latest tourney and many thanks for your interesting news in Aktuell pages

About your mistakes...
Don't worry,its ok,actually everybody make mistakes (including me),as we know:Nobody is Perfect !

BTW,honestly i am doing also sometimes mistakes, especially when i work with the optimization of Perfect books, but what makes me very happy:
-Such chess experts like you (Frank Quisinsky) plus including another chess experts like MindBreaker (Nathanael Plapp),who is creator of the strongest R4 EXP settings) and plus many other chess friends too,who prefer to use my opening books, for me this is really meaning a lot and i promise that i will do my best for the next releases of my books !!

About your current results
So far my estimations are becoming true :)

Hi Sedat,

thanks again Sedat !!

Yes I reported a bit about the tournament on my German "Aktuell / Actual" page. Easy to translate with Goolge translator in front of this page.

Frank's Chess Page, SWCR
http://www.amateurschach.de

Please have a look again in my Actual page. I am speaking from my latest entry 131. You can find a table with the tournament performance in detail! I hope interesting for my readers / visitors!

Very easy to see now which engines surprised and which others disappointed.

And to my mistake:
Critter 0.90 x64 played in the first round with 4-pieces Gaviota Bases. I delete in *.eng file the extra settings and forgot to delete the gtb directory and special files. Not important, because Critter made no points with the advantage of 4-pieces Gaviota-Bases. I changed that for the next round.

It's very complex to organize such a tourney and webpages too. I have a lot of work with it but many many fun and much others computer chess friends too.

TWIC reported about the tourney and Schach Niggemann powered the tourney. That's great! So chess players around the World can used the databases later for analyzes.

To the Rybka Exp. 42 setting creator!
I never set one message in Rybka forum. I don't like different people around Rybka and don't like that no answers comes to important questions from Vas.

I don't know the creator of Rybka 4 settings. Much what he wrote I can't understand. Most of this to statistics and results. But fact is that he do a good work with his test system. Rybka 4 is playing with the Exp. settings much more aggressive (I like that) and is clearly stronger with longer time controls as with standard settings. More and more clear at this time.

To your books:
I don't know your opinion about:
Fast remis games after the book moves. We have 2 of such games in the actual SWCR Champions-League 2011 database.

Do you have interest to delate such positions or do you search such positions. Not easy to find a good way to manage this problem I think. I have the same problem with my PGN-Random book I create for Shredder Classic 4 GUI.

Your book is perfect ... the name is right :-)

I like it and in all games both sites have the same chances. Very, very good for engine testing. A must have for each computer chess tester.
It must be a lot of work to create this opening book.

Thanks for all and have fun with SWCR Champions-League 2011!

Hello Frank,

Thanks a lot for your kind words...

Yes...i visit your pages daily to see what are the latest stainding in Champions League 2011 and plus i visit your Aktuell page too very oftenly

And really very interesting/informative news i read in your Aktuell area
Aktuell page is look like a ComputerChess newspaper,it seems you put a lot of efforts...just i'd like to say for your work:GREAT !!

About my Perfect books:
Thats true i spend a lot of time for optimizing my books, probably 1 year i work over P2011 and almost all lines are optimized/checked by hand
In other words, the critical positions:TOP 20's engines Blacks winning percentage which are bellow of 40% are disabled,as far as i possible i prefer the above percentage of 45% (for Blacks)

For Playchess server,as far as possible i was prefering the winning percentage of openings approx.70 % (for Whites),approx.60 % (for Blacks)
Of course then the mostly of the opening were disabled

Yes...the name of my book is Perfect, but unfortunately the performance is not Perfect :) still needs tuning

About 2 draw games:
Currently i am too busy (later i will check those short drawn games),but anyway it depends on you and if you have time you can replay, then its will be more reliable standings of course

Happy Testing,
Sedat

Hello again Frank,

I have just looked more closely about the two games which are ended draw in 17 and 21 moves
And noticed that there is no solution to avoid the current draw games, due to Perfect 2011 book's almost all lines are up to 8 moves
There is only one way:i need to improve the opening lines up to 20 depth moves, but then of course there will be possibility to see draw games in 30 moves :)

Best,
Sedat

Hi Sedat,

yes, the Aktuell / Actual page is a bit for my vistors which have interest on my work. It's not a News page I created often in the past but I hope an interesting idea with additional information to my SWCR.

To your Perfect opening book:

I played around 35.000 games with my PGN Random Book 4.1 in SWCR. Games under 16 moves I replayed sice I start my rating list. This are games with "Draw by three-fold repetition". So far 112 of more as 35.000 games I used the PGN Random Book 4.1.

I am not sure what I have to do with the opening positions. What should I do with the positions? Means that different engines produced in different of this positions this "Draw by three-fold repetiton" games.

That's one of the main problems with opening books we can use for an rating list or such tourneys I am playing so far with SWCR Champions-League 2011.

So it's very interesting for me to know what Sedat will do with this short remis games. Means, do you deleted the positions from your book or not. I am not sure what I should do with my positions I found in PGN-Random Book 4.1.

And to your opening book.
Is a good mix from modern and older opening systems. All are good for testing. That's a main problem in my PGN Random Book 4.1. I used modern systems only.

I will use your Pefect 2011 book for the next SWCR-32 tourney (after my Champions-League 2011 tourney) with so far 14 new updates. Over 10.000 new games are to play. This need around 40 days. So you have a litte bit more material for optimizing your Perfect 2011 book. But I think it's full optimized after all what I saw :-)

Hi Sedat,

thanks, that's the information I search.
I do also nothing with the positions I had in my PGN-Random 4.1 database that produced such games.

Perhaps 2-3 I should delete because different engines produced the same draw very fast.

Possible that different engines produced such fast draws in the same opening lines. I mean that's easy to see after 10.000 new games in my comming soon SWCR-32 tourney. I will use for this tounrey your Perfect 2011 book.

I will collect the fast remis games under 16 moves in a little database and will send you the games later. Again, games under 16 moves I replayed in SWCR. So you will have a bit more material for your next optimations.

THANKS, I like your book!

PS:
At the moment Critter 0.90 is playing vs. Houdini 1.5 x64 in SWCR Champions-League. After 17 moves Critter got a big advantage. You should later replay this game, very very interesting! But it's not a bad opening line, just a great game by Critter 0.90 x64!

Hello Frank,

Thank you for your interesting/useful comments...

Yes...agreed and i dont like these short draw games too, really they affect the strength of engines elo performance

And from my experience i can say,in all opening books (Playchess/Neutral books...) are available those short drawn games
Actually i am doing my best to avoid those short drawn lines, especially Fritz GUI's book editing options help me a lot to tune the shortest draw games

But anyway unfortunately there are some draw positions, where i can do nothing and in my opinion the Engine's Authors should improve their engines (i mean to avoid exactly those fast draw positions)

A little note during optimization of my Perfect books:for me each game is very important and i don't want to see any chess engine to loose due to disadvantage start

In other words,my goal for each opening game is like on a level of serious official tournament

One thing more,as we know, there are many opening positions, where GM of 2600-2800 Elo perform very good, but exactly on the same positions the chess engines of +3000 elo are falling in a big disadvantage (that's why nowadays many Grandmasters use the strongest engines for their analysis)

For this reason, the neutral opening book authors should be very careful in choosing about in which opening lines the engines should be tested !

BTW,for example in my latest SCCT (60m+10s) Gladiators Tournament, there are also a few short draw games and i don't plan to resume those games
And there will be no any solution if we delete those short draw games, even i think those games should be available, maybe this material we will be helpful for the Chess Engine Authors

And here are available some screenshots of the short draw games (based on Perfect 2010/2011 book),where the rest engines (hundreds of games) are finished with no short draw games

Best Regards,
Sedat

Hello dear Frank !

BTW,i have just noticed 2nd page:the SWCR Champions League day by day is becoming much more interesting :)

And here are my estimations for the current rounds:

Round 2 Group 09:Houdini (already clear)
Round 2 Group 10:IvanHoe
Round 2 Group 11:Rybka
Round 2 Group 12:Stockfish

And its too early to guess, but i think the Final will be between:
a)Houdini-Stockfish ?!
b)Houdini-Rybka ?!
c)Stockfish-Rybka ?!

*There is also possibility to see IvanHoe on the Final too

And really its very hard to estimate which chess engine will be the Champion !

Lets see the time will show up...

Best,
Sedat
