...and now, even if I reboot my computer and look at
http://www.tcec-chess.net/live.php
the Time Usage Graph is no longer there and the corresponding Show button is inoperative.
It seems your application has loaded some parameters-preferences (cookies?) in my computer.

...even if I delete the two TCEC cookies I have found, the result stays the same... 8-)

Hi Martin,

Pls bring back the Guest function in the chat. I will not use Twitter, Google, Facebook, Yahoo or chat wings for a chat function ... that seems much over the top

Thx in advance

I used my own and very simple rating programme to estimate the rating performances of the engines in Stage 2b:

Code: Select all

Rating_performances_for_Round_Robin_tournaments, ® 2012-2013.

Write down the full name of the Notepad (including .txt), up to 64 characters:

Stage_2b.txt

Write down the number of engines of the Round Robin tournament (up to 64):

8

Write down your desired mean of ratings between -5000 and 5000:

3000

Write down the clock rate of the CPU (in GHz), only for timing the elapsed time of the calculations:

3

Rating performances have been saved into List_of_rating_performances.txt file.

Approximated elapsed time: 31 ms.

Thanks for using Rating_performances_for_Round_Robin_tournaments. Press Enter to exit.

Code: Select all

Round Robin with 8 engines and 14 games per engine.
Total number of games: 56 games.

 Engines: Performance: Score:

Engine 01: 3139.29 71.43 %
Engine 02: 3114.11 67.86 %
Engine 03: 3045.69 57.14 %
Engine 04: 3024.16 53.57 %
Engine 05: 2981.55 46.43 %
Engine 06: 2981.55 46.43 %
Engine 07: 2938.03 39.29 %
Engine 08: 2775.62 17.86 %

Mean of ratings: 3000.00 Elo.
It should give very similar results when compared to EloSTAT. Thank you very much for nTCEC! ;)

Evaluation Graph on Live Screen

I think that Paolo's idea is good: changes from 5.5 to 6.5 (or -5.5 to -6.5) are negligible for the expected outcome of the game, but a change from -0.5 to 0.5 (or viceversa) is more significant IMHO.

You can use a sigmoidal function like 1/[1 + exp(-x)]... its range goes from 0 to 1; if you want to change it to values [-1, 1] then you use 2/[1 + exp(-x)] for going to the interval [0, 2], then substracting 1 for getting the interval [-1, 1]. So I propose 2/[1 + exp(-x)] - 1 = [1 - exp(-x)]/[1 + exp(-x)]. Of course you can toy with this function and use 2/[1 + a^(-x)] - 1 (with a > 0) instead of use e. I called x = (evaluation of the engines).

So you can use a linear axis for moves and a special vertical axis: the internal value -1 means black wins, 0 is a draw and 1 is white wins. So if an eval is x < -6.5, then 2/[1 + exp(-x)] - 1 < -0.997 more less, which is very close to -1. If y(x) = 2/[1 + exp(-x)], the engines evaluations x can be written at a height y(x); OTOH, if you know y(x), then x = ln{[1 + y(x)]/[1 - y(x)]}.

Code: Select all

I hope that my approximated graphical representation is clear enough.

I think that Quazar is virtually out of the Stage 4 due to the use of a 16-core (!) machine. Komodo will have a hard time too.

I heard that Komodo will use a beta version with MP ready !
