It's not that Rxf3 isn't good, it's just the recapture isn't bad.

The whole game is riddled with errors and in the end White resigned in a Won Position!

I have to agree with you. The only option other than gxf3 straight away is Rxe7+ Qxe7 gxf3, which leaves White worse.
