ChessGUI question for Mathias or anybody who can help

Post by Graham Banks »

How can I instruct a multi-cpu engine to only use 1CPU when running it in ChessGUI?

Regards, Graham.

I am a virgin to ChessGUI, but I think I might be able to help you..I am using Zappa Mexico II as the reference..
1) Install the engine
2) Games>Human Against Engine>Chose the Engine>
3) on the right it says Edit Engine parameters, click on it
4) Page 1> Threads> Auto (you can change the option here)

How about Rybka 2.1?
Not all engines give that option.

Another question.
When setting the book options, what should the number of variations be set to?
It seems that putting any one number in there means all games get played with the one variation.
I'd like to have a variety of openings if possible.

As an aside, if I set book moves to 12 it will play 13, set to 11 plays 12.

However, no problems yet running a tournament at 40/8 repeating.
If you can allow for engine logos to be displayed, I'd certainly go for ChessGUI over Arena.

Nice job so far Matthias.
Well recommended for others to give ChessGUI a try. Very easy to install engines, play games or set up tournaments. :D

Hi Graham,
if you mean GUI remis book, each book line is an independent opening, with no variations. The openings are in ChsGUI_Book.cgb in ascii format.
Book moves count will be checked soon ;).
Engine logos shall be implemented. I just wanted reasonable GUI functionality before optics.
Which ChessGUI version are you using ?
Best,
Matthias.

PS: I hope you solved that Rybka options issue with Tony's hint.
My engine was quite strong till I added knowledge to it.

Hi Mathias,

I'm using version 0.088.
Rybka doesn't give the option to set to 1CPU under the parameters that I can see in ChessGUI, so no luck there.
How can I get the Remis book to play a variety of openings instead of the one line all the time?

Regards, Graham.

I shall check source code, but I think the GUI sticks with one line till a full round is completed, then the next book line kicks in. If colours are also alternated, then we have fairest approach.
I shall implement the unfair option to change book line after each game later.
See info about ChsGUI_Book.cgb in my previous posting.

Best,
Matthias.
