I have in very high esteem Chessbase company and his products. I believe Fritz series is the best available in the commercial realm not only due to the very strong engine it offers -currently it should the second or third best-, but also and even mainly for the wonderful gui it has, the huge database, the many things the program let to do, its levels, services, etc.
So, it amazes me that they have not been capable of putting on its feet a really regular and efficient update function.
You connect to its site and many times it says "you have the the last version" or something like that and you know for certain you have it not. Neither they explain if the update is just about lateral services or about the engine.
It would be lot easier if they just put the package in the site in order to download it and if they say what is all about.
Just a glitch for a so great a product, but a glitch after all.

Agree Fernando, and even if you manage to get the latest update, you can't predict the damage that it will drop over your head

Re: Chessbase Updates
At least to date I have had no damage due to updates, but in any case Fritz some times behaves in a very weird fashion, compelling me to a re-install. Some times is incapable of deploying 3-D board in full, just the simplistic version coming from the age of Fritz 4. Sometimes the text in the windows where the moves are written becomes fuzzy. And so and so.
But anyway it is still my favorite program. I love those sentences as "oh, a novelty...." And what a strong engine!
I am still a child regards

Fritz 11 is an amazing engine indeed, but I like the more aggressive playing style of Deep Fritz 10....

Re: Chessbase Updates
Oh well, I do not have a dual core processor, just a dual-thread one, you know, the predecessor of the real dual core chip. So I have never got a deep engine because it would be, in my case, an unsuccessful expending of money.
But anyway it is hard for me to imagine a sharper engine than Fritz. It was always a very tactical engine and still is, only that now it has tons of extra knowledge and positional acumen.
Hiarcs is,maybe, a bit sharper OR more aggressive, but it lacks the great package it deserves. As I have said many times, it is not enough, for me, just the bare engine.

Re: Chessbase Updates
I understand you perfectly,I mean the GUI issue
Even though Fritz 11 is stronger than Deep Fritz 10,it has transformed a little bit into a fishy creature with this boring but stable playing style....
Unlike it,Deep Fritz 10 plays more aggressively and it's playing style is much spectacular to watch....
This is from my rating list
Fritz 11.0.0.0 2890 [+43] 228 games played
Deep Fritz 10.1.0.0 2847 264 games played
It's worthy to get a Core 2 Duo machine Fernando, even more when Deep Fritz 11 comes along, you will have the motivation for that
Take a look at this link please:

You can build your own system piece by piece and you will be a happy owner, believe your jordanian brother
