new engine freely available (AndrewChess)

Post by AndrewShort »

Hi, I've developed a new chess engine, largely due to the wonderful support from your sister developer forum. It's my first version, and when I set it to play its best at 5 seconds per move, it beats me every time (even though the engine is nowhere near as fast as professional engines). I would love for you to play against it and let me know what you think.

You can download the app (Windows only) and readme file from:

http://www.zshare.net/download/14261367f63be2e7/

It's a stand-alone app, written in Visual Studio (Visual Basic .NET)

AndrewChess version 6.25.08

REQUIREMENTS / INSTALLATION
===========================

Requires Windows, with .NET installed.

There is no setup or installation. Simply run the .exe.

All Windows Vista machines already have .NET installed, so it will just work right away on Vista.

Many Windows XP machines already have .NET installed, but some do not. If you have Windows XP and you do not have .NET, you can quickly download it from Microsoft for free at:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta ... laylang=en

NOTES
=====

select Fixed time per move

select Fixed depth per move (useful for beginners if you choose low depth)

Most of you should click on New Game, and set the engine to level 50, and 5 sec per move. That way it will play its best at 5 sec per move, for example. If you are rated, I suggest you choose 10 sec or 30 sec per move to give you a good game.

No opening book (therefore no variation in play if playing with same settings)

No pondering

No winboard support. The app is a stand-alone chess app.

See the About box for more information on implementation.

QUESTIONS FOR YOU
=================

If you play at say, fixed 10 sec per move (on a reasonably fast computer, with depth limit high, like 50), then what approximate rating would you think the engine is playing at. I know real engines/humans don't play at fixed time per move, but humour me anyway :-)
