Thinker 4CPU - Fritz 11

Post by Werner »

Here is my result so far:

Code: Select all

1   Fritz 11                +27/-3/=2 87.50%   28.0/32
2   Thinker 5.2E x64p 4CPU  +3/-27/=2 12.50%    4.0/32
This is a very bad result - behind 1CPU of 5.2D.
Are there any Problems?

Fritz 11 gives 1.16 after the 8th move,a clearly disadvantage for black....
I don't think that the new version of Thinker is that far behind Fritz 11,something must be wrong,maybe it doesn't work well under the ChessBase GUI....

Thinker was using all 4 cores? Perhaps it has problems with adapter.eng and not the Wb2UCI converter? with 4 cores

I suspect the same....

Hi,
- it was using all 4 cores
- I think too there are problems with adapter.eng (I used a very old adapter)
- I repeat now the games with wb2uci configuration
against Toga I had also a bad result with only 2 games:

Code: Select all

1   Toga II 1.4 beta5cn 4CPU   11   2.0/2
2   Thinker 5.2E x64p 4CPU    00    0.0/2
I will later post the result of the upper game repeated with black and white made with wb2uci configuration.

I think you are better off using the newest Wb2Uci adapter, even though you won't get any information about thinking lines etc.

For a ponder off match, I think the Wb2Uci adapter is ok with Thinker 5.2E. I did not see any technical problems in my 100 games 1+1 match. But this was the single cpu (single core) version only:

I am surprised that people are still trying to use the .eng adapter that didnt properly support wb protocol. It sends a 'new' command after each move which makes the engine lose all the hash info, and made most of the engines significantly weaker. There were only few engines that supported it at the time it was discontinued, that includes, Yace, Der Bringer etc..Even crafty played significantly weaker compared to the .eng version compiled by chessbase, so I doubt that thinker supports it at all.

Hi,
here are 2 games I made with wb2uci adapter inside Fritz 11 GUI!
I edited wb2uci to get more hash as thinker.ini is no more supported:
[OPTIONS]
Program=(Passive)Thinker_64-bit-smp4.exe hashsize=10
Ponder=false

The first game looked ok - but on the 2nd game I saw another blunder move which I could confirm inside Chessbase - not inside Arena.
So I am not sure where is the bug: inside Chessbase or inside the engine :wink:

Re: Thinker 4CPU - Fritz 11 with wb2uci adapter

Post by DomLeste »

I forgot to ask you werner if with the new version of Thinker you had any problems with adapter.eng with the Single CPU version? Or you tried Wb2UCI so far?

So far these bugs are with MP version of Thinker?
