Size matters

Post by AdminX »

Don't get me wrong, I love my Novag Citrine and I like what I can do with it when it comes to the features that it offers. I often take it with me when I go on out of town road trips.

Now with that said and out of the way. When I am at home or in a tournament setting. There is no replacing my DGT Board and Pieces. For me in these cases, size really does matter.

Yes, I know DGT cost more, but ... 8-)

If I had to guess, I'd say it was just upside down.

actually it is called the FAP or Feature Activation Piece
the Citrine has no feature buttons so all features(such as changing levels..playing black from bottom..etc etc.) are initiated by activating a square on the board
this piece is used to activate a feature
it is really no different than any other piece and can be used to replace any piece on the board and any piece can be used to activate a feature
no other dedicated chess computer ever released for sale had a piece like this
comes in handy when promoting to a queen if a queen is already on the board
otherwise its a bit silly really
perfect example of "over thinking" a solution to a problem that does not exit in the first place

Too Much can sometimes be too little regards

If I was a woman I am sure I could understand all the nuances of your proposition about size; as a straigh man, it is more difficult.
Too big a board is problematic. I have Two rooms for my library, desk, comps et all, but even being my main desk a dinner table of big size, to use a big set is cumbersome. Sooner or later you move ut a sme ile of books or pencils fall.....

Well,

I was always considering buying a DGT board to play against my computer.

But since I knew that you anyway have to look at the screen to see what is the computer move, I do see anymore the added value of DGT board in that case.

Why not just use a normal board ?
