Hello there,
Does abnybody noticed it,where TheKing 3.50 engine ponders during opponents thinking time by using 1 thread(CPU)
Normally the GUI's option is set to ponder off,but anyway it still continues to ponder,if its a dual machine thats means 50%,if its a Quad machine,then TheKing uses 25%...
This problem appears under all GUIs(Fritz,Arena,Shredder,Winboard)
And here is my Fritz configuration:
[ENGINE]
Name=The King 3.50 x64 t4
Author=Johan de Koning
Filename=Wb2Uci.exe
[OPTIONS]
Program=TheKing350x64.exe /t4

Hi Sedat,
I remember - there is no solution.
So I used a dual to test single-single engines with ponder off
and I used my quad to test TheKing with 2CPUs
to be sure to have the same conditions.
In eng-eng matches TheKing does not ponder but it is using the free CPU.

In other words...currently i set TheKing's option to t1 against mp engines.However if we set the option to t2, it again uses 1 thread thats means its will be disadvantage for the rest of the mp engines

Hi,
if you set t=2 and play eng-eng against another 2CPU opponent on a quad all is ok.

Hi,
A golden hint from the good doctor
:
Yes,The King 3.50 always reserves 1 cpu even with ponder off,but....as the author of the engine stated once,it does not actualy ponder and if the opponent of The King 3.50 needs the cpu,it will get a full advantage of it
Sedat,try to make the following:
Match the engine with ponder off and t2 against another MP engine and notice the Kn/s of the opponent,then check with t1....there will be no drop in the performance and you'll see that the statement of the author is correct....
The King 3.50 expert regards,
Dr.D
P.S.IIRC,Ray Banks can confirm my statement

Thanks for the medicine my dear doctor

Yes...i think i will set it to t2 against mp engines,at least it will be more near to equal conditions
About t4 i can use it only against single processor engines

Yes ...Wael,you are rght,i have tested TheKing 3.50 x64 using 1 thread and 4 threads against Rybka 3 and noticed that the kns of of the Rybka engine were same in both cases.
So i will continue testing The King using 4 threads against mp engines

...be careful with that medicine
I have watched some games and after 10 moves or so TheKing suddenly does not give that thread free...

In my testings,TheKing 3.50 x64 t4 even up 10 moves uses 1 thread during opponents thinking time and still not sure that will affect the performance of the mp engines if i set the option to t4 ?!Werner wrote:...be careful with that medicine![]()
