Hello,
I use ChessBase Light, the version from the CB 6 era. This little program fits my needs perfectly. It has Fritz 4 engine in it. I need a stronger engine. What would be the strongest engine to use with this program? My system is XP Home.
Thanks for your time,
Strongest engine for CB Light (Old version)

I'm pretty sure that version doesn't support UCI engines so you'll have to use another version of Fritz. I've no idea if the Fritz interface has changed since and therefore which version you could use - perhaps an email to ChessBase themselves might solve this for you.
Cheers,

Why not download the latest Free CB Light? It comes with Fritz 6 (I believe).
If you upgrade to CB Light Premium you get the UCI engine support and then you can use whatever engine you like.

I do not want to waste my system resources on a program that I use only once or twice a month. Old CB Light is indeed light and is the program that fits my need almost perfectly.
Thanks,

The new CB Light 2007 includes a Fritz 6 engine. Appearantly it is "full featured", in other words it has engine options, can use tablebases, and does not seem to have any restrictions. I am not 100% sure if it will work in the old CB Light, but it is worth trying.
If not, try to download the old CB Light again, because I think more recent versions include a Fritz 5.32 engine, not Fritz 4. F532 does not access tablebases though.
I would have recommended the cb-native Crafty 20.14 too, but unfortunately I just read that it is "not for Fritz5/16Bit or ChessBase 6.0".

I am able to use Rybka UCI with Chessbase 7.
I do this only because running chessbase 7 on linux with wine is the most stable configuration under linux (without resolving to vmware etc). As a side note, while wine works with chessbase 9, there are issues which might be fixed soon in the next wine build.
You can use any UCI engine under Chessbase 7 using winboard mode. The instructions to do this are at http://pagesperso-orange.fr/lefouduroi/uci.htm. The instructions are in French, however, you can use a web translate application to understand them. I can reproduce the instructions in English if you have a particular difficulty.
I am not sure the procedure works with Chessbase 6 light. This is definitely worth a try though. It appears that Rybka 2.2n is freely available from Rybka's official website. You can also leverage free UCI engines such as Toga.
Having said all this, if I were running windows on a regular basis, I would definitely be tempted to migrate to the latest Chessbase light.
