Interesting page.
Differences are bigger than I (layman) expected.

Indeed,QX6700 is a very good choice if you're planning to buy hardware even nowadays....a good overclocking potential and a good price
I wonder how many MHz can you push it to with a good cooling system

i7 920,at least with a good cooling it can be easly overclocked approx. @4.0GHz,thats means approx.50-70% faster than QX6700
And the price between both hardwares are almost same
(a little bit is more expensive i7 920,but the speed difference of Core i7 920 is too much... )
In other words nowdays its possible to build a very fast hadware for approx. 1500 usd
About overclocking QX6700,some people can very easly reach around @3.2-@3.5GHz with a good air cooling, and some people(including me
I think the reason is my motherboard or maybe the reason is my QX6700,becouse this processor is very old version, its the first releases- since 2006 year.
Best,
Sedat

Thanks Sedat for this valuable information,I'll go for i7 920 thenSedat Canbaz wrote:Instead of QX6700,i recommend:Dr.Wael Deeb wrote:Indeed,QX6700 is a very good choice if you're planning to buy hardware even nowadays....a good overclocking potential and a good price![]()

Re: SCCT Hardware Tournament
I will be getting an i920 to see what the fuss is all about. It seems to be performing very well when you look at the kns speed that Rybka 3 shows ... even better or very close to 8 core 3.2 Ghz. But on Playchess with games against 3.8 ghz i7's I feel that the 8 core 3.2 Ghz is stronger and the 4 ghz 8 core much stronger. But really to get that little extra strength you are spending a fortune which practically is not worth it.
I will say though that you can get an 8 core 3.2 Ghz today for around $1600 for motherboard + 2cpu's + 4GB 800 Mhz FBDIMMS. Ofcourse if you don't have a very powerful power supply you would need that too, but otherwise your old stuff can stay the same. A good Core i7 system would probably be around a $700 upgrade and with a good cooler around $750.

Thanks Majd,I'll have this in mind when going for a price hunt in the market,I thought that an octal machine is much expensive, but reading your post made me second guess my decisionM ANSARI wrote:I will be getting an i920 to see what the fuss is all about. Let's test your 2x QX9775 @4.00GHz against mines, you know we need games then we can make better conclusion and also i can create a rating list to compare the elo difference
Btw,if you have free cpu time for example tomorrow we can test our hardwares on playchess server

Re: SCCT Hardware Tournament
Hi Sedat ... have been on Playchess few days now but can't seem to catch you. I will try later tonight as well. Maybe we can get Phil to test against Skulltrail at 3.2 Ghz and 4 Ghz. As for Core i7 prices ... they seem still pretty high with motherboard and DDR3 memory being much higher than normal DDR 2 and LGA 775 motherboards. It does seem that a properly configured i7 can run at 3.8 Ghz, and it would be interesting to see if at that speed it can beat a 3.2 Ghz Octa.
