Assuming a large cluster is not available and assuming both sides have all the same versions of chess programs available to them,
What does it take to beat a team that is already a strong Freestyle contender?

Entered all but one of the playchess freestyle events. Tried lots
of different ideas. The way to win is:
1) Superior HW
2) Better choice of openings
3) Steer the game into a good endgame
point 3 is where the best are different from the rest.
I would not assume large clusters are not available. Assuming you
have several team members. Take each position and assign moves
to each members and computers. If you have 20 members and
each has 2 computers, then in positions with only 40 move choices
assign each computer a move.
This is a bit of a crude algorithm but it seems best for humans
to run.
