Stockfish 1.5.1 in ExaChess (OSX)

Post by sockmonkey »

Stockfish 1.5.1 crashes immediately when launched from ExaChess 4. I'm using plenty of other UCI engines in EC successfully, and I can use SF from the CLI, but I can't seem to get the two to work together (32- or 64-bit). If any of the devs are Mac-friendly, it would be great to figure this out. Please let me know if I can help out somehow.

There's a free version of ExaChess, btw., which could be used to test this out. I'm using the compiles of Stockfish which I found here:

http://forum.computerschach.de/cgi-bin/ ... l?tid=1538

Thanks
Jeremy

Hi Jeremy,

thanks for your report. Unfortunatly I don't have a Mac so I'm sorry but I don't think I can help you on this. The only one of us with a Mac should be Tord.

Thanks

Some possible compatibility problems with OSX and the -previous?- Shredder GUI for Mac were also mentioned in this thread on CSS. This was with Stockfish 1.5. I think, Tord did post some binaries there that Jeremy may try, possibly these binaries are not yet updated by Tord to version 1.5.1? Stockfish 1.4 seemed to have fewer problems.

Best bet is to sent some e-mails to Tord I think :)

Correction, the 1.5.1 sources were from 2009-10-08 I read in another thread on CSS so it is likely these were also used for the MAC binaries mentioned a day later, 2009-10-09, by Tord.

Try these: http://www.leakyheap.de/macchess/Stockf ... .1-mac.zip

It's my own optimized (Intel PGO) build for Mac OS X 10.6 (32 and 64 Bit Intel). And it works, at least under Scid.

Unfortunately, no, but I've gotten in touch with Rolf Exner (ExaChess developer), who is looking into it. Thanks!

Please keep us informed about the result of this debug session. If we need to do some modification to make it work we will do.

I also can't get my known working copy of stockfish 1.5.1 to work under ExaChess Lite.

I use Sigma Chess for all my UCI engine matches and analysis. It has a much nicer interface for engine parameter customization.

P.S. Thanks for Stockfish! 1.5.1 is a veritable monster! I take a perverse pleasure in watching Rybka suffer under a crushing attack by move 19!

As ExaChess has _no_ interface for UCI engine customization, I'd say that's true. I have Sigma, too, so maybe I'll switch back over to that for now.

Thanks!

The thing that always kills me with SigmaChess is the lack of variation support, btw. Cripples an otherwise great product. That, and the lack of updates, even a maintenance update for Intel machines, for over a year.
