1 million?
10 million?
How about 100 million?
An incredible gift from Marcel van Kervinck:

P.S.
The games are all rated games from FICS, IIRC.
How many chess games is "A Lot"?

No idea what specific purpose does the human games on FICS, ICC serve. They're obviously full of blunders and takes bit of a time to download them all.
Perhaps they're used for statistical and other mathematical purposes for studying the probability of wins via this opening and such?

For instance, very highly ranked chess players occasionally use these servers to test out new ideas.
Since the games in the archives are for ranked players, we can also filter the games by strength.
It could be interesting for probability studies. For instance ("from this position, what is the probability of each of the possible moves that have been played as a function of Elo of the moving player?") OR ("from this position, what is the probability of each of the possible moves that have been played as a function of winning position from here for the moving player?")

Thx Dann, looks interesting!
But how to handle a torrent file ? While I've heard about it, I've also avoided it...
