upgrades and cpu / engine performance

Post by benstoker »

With stockfish as a measuring stick, does anyone have an idea what increas in nps one gets going from a dual core e7500 that gets approx. nps 2137k on 2 cores, to quad core q8400? What would be the expected stockfish nps on a q8400?

Thanks

Probably twice as many NPS. Still, it is very slow compared to top of the line microprocessors. Next year we are going to eight core processors at 35 nanometers for the circuitry width.

Actually I think they are approaching the limits of silicon.
