Strange end-game handling by Crafty

Post by hgm »

In this month's on-line bitz tourney, Crafty managed to lose this game against Telepath for unclear reasons. It seemed a dead draw...

Do you know anything about it? IE which version? what hardware? Who was running it? Which endgame tables (if any) and such? Crafty disagrees with several of the moves played, giving it about 2 seconds per move at 8M nps on my laptop (with 3-4-5 egtbs).

I just retreived the game from the ICS through "mailstored", and know little else about is. But I see that Graham could answer your query.

Take into account that it was blitz, and that this type of endgame may require very deep search to find the "truth". It is possible that the position aftter 69.Ke2 was a dead draw, while it is also possible that the position after 80...Ba7 (or few moves earlier or later) was already lost for Black. But I think if many black moves show a draw score until some late iteration N were reached then this may simply be too difficult to find in a blitz game, even for strong engines < ELO 3000.
