Looks like Chiron has a strong commercial debut. Are you testing the Houdini 2.0b next?

I am a bit disappointed. A place in the top 3 I did not expect, but IPON-Rating ~ +/- 2900.

Ubaldo did say around 3050, didn't he? That would place Chiron roughly around the same strength as Shredder and Naum on the CCRL list. From what I can see, isn't it doing better than those two engines? If so, then we're probably getting better than what was indicated.

Chiron is performing 41 and 15 points stronger than Shredder and Naum respectively in the IPON test. That is about 3045 Elo points on the CEGT 40/4 rating list.

No, H2.0 IS substituted by H2.0b as the Author claims no difference in playing strength, therefore there is no need to test this version!

In IPON list there is interesting 100+ points gap from Stockfish to next engine (Chiron/Naum). Engines from Houdini to Stockfish are in special hyper strong class!? BTW why is Chiron running without tablebases?

Hello Jouni,

Yes, it is an interesting gap. The question is if this is just by chance or if there is a reason ...

When I started to test Chiron I tried as usual with Tbs AND Bitbases. Unfortunately the enigne is crashing with the Bitbases and the Tbs are off by default ... at the end I have to test without anything. Maybe this changes with the next major update in a few weeks.
Nonetheless, just by accident I run H2.0 without Tbs for a complete 2200 game set and repeated it with the 4 pc Tbs. The difference was exactly 0! Actually I think it doesnt matter for real game play, even if it is very usefull for analysis!

I know what Robert said. :)

But you can tell in 2 mins. they are not the same program. Run a few test positions side by side with Houdini 2.0 and Houdini 2.0b running in Fritz.

I have run 60 games with a TC of 5 3 showing a nice elo gain over version 2.0

Here is my results so far with Version 2.0b at a longer TC of 40moves in 15mins.

I will be able to tell in the next day or so if my results are a fluke, or Houdini 2.0b is showsing real gains. As I log more games.

Results of TC 5 3 test already posted in other thread.
