Delphil 2.9e - AnMon 5.75 : 1 - 0

Post by gleperlier »

Hello,

Today I want to share with you today another nice long game (40 moves in 120 minutes + 60 minutes rest) between Delphil 2.9e and another French engine AnMon 5.75 by Christian Barreteau. I choose this game because I wanted to show you that even lesser engines can have a nice plan to make their pieces actives.

It's a Sicilian Najdorf and both engines are out of book after Delphil's 10.0-0-0*

[d]r1b1k2r/1p1nbppp/pq1ppn2/6B1/4PP2/1NN2Q2/PPP3PP/2KR1B1R b kq - 0 10

Position if fairly equal and quite typical of that opening I guess.

After 14...Ng7 we arrived in this position :

[d]r3k2r/1bqnbppp/p2pp3/1p4P1/4PP2/1NNB1Q2/PPP4P/2KR3R w kq - 0 15

White are are launching a king side attack and black king is still in the middle but can either go for a 0-0 or 0-0-0.
Here many engines like to play 15.a3 or 15.Kb1 or even 15.Ne2 but Delphil went for 15.h4!? to go on with the kind side attack.

[d]r3k2r/1bqnbppp/p2pp3/1p4P1/4PP1P/1NNB1Q2/PPP5/2KR3R b kq - 0 15

After few moves we arrive at a key position after 21.Qxd3.

[d]2r1r1k1/1bq1bppp/p3p3/1p1pP1P1/3N1P1P/P1NQ4/1PP5/1K1R3R b - - 0 21

Here AnMon played the nice 21...Bxa3!

[d]2r1r1k1/1bq2ppp/p3p3/1p1pP1P1/3N1P1P/b1NQ4/1PP5/1K1R3R w - - 0 22

Then 22.Ncxb5! axb5 23.Nxb5 Qc4 24.Nxa3 Qxf4 and position is still equal. Komodo 4 gives it a -0.05

[d]5k2/3b1ppp/4p3/3rP1P1/1P1p3P/3P4/1K3R2/4N3 w - - 0 39

Here we are where I wanted to show you a nice plan from Delphil. After 38...Bxd7 above Delphil went for a nice play as Philippe Fabiani said. Delphil played Nf3 then King went from b2 to e2 to protect d3 pawn, and release the Rook that became very active !

[d]5k2/3r1ppp/2b1p3/4P1P1/1P1p3P/3P1N2/4KR2/8 b - - 0 42

After 43.Rf1!

Delphil now have a chance to win because of the b passed pawn.

[d]5k2/1b3ppp/4p3/3r2P1/1P5P/1N1P4/3K4/R7 b - - 0 47

In the position above it seems AnMon made a little mistake by playing 47...Rf5? where 47...Bc6 was better.

48.Ra7! and now Delphil has even more chances with his passed pawn.

We can see here after 58.b7 that it's done for Delphil.

[d]4k3/RP4pp/4p3/2K3P1/5p2/3P4/8/1r6 b - - 0 58

Not very impressive but Delphil showed so us some great skills

Cheers,

Gab

The outside passer is really dangerous in CC, it seems.

I've seen my (weak) engine lose games where it has a materiasl advantage, and the oppenent has an outside passer. I had this in the ACCA yesterday - my program acutally had the outside passer, and was doen the exchange. 'm sure if it had tried to push the pawn earlier, a draw could have been achieved.

Nice game :)

Thanks. Another interesting game. I find these posts so much more interesting than just posting statistics. A well analyzed game with highlights is always interesting. I quite like the style of Delphil, so I'll go ahead and download it. It will surely be a good sparring partner for my engine DiscoCheck. If I get a nice game out of it, I'll post it with highlights in this way.

I agree. Such game analysis is fun to look at.
