I have no idea what I am looking at in parameters. And that is the ONLY place Fritz 11 or 13 gui will pay any attention to. It is not, I doubt, the least bit interested in an ini engine folder file.
Having said that, the "strength" = "Helpless" in parameters. That is the only important place to be concerned with. What am I supposed to do? I have never seen a variable strength engine on its weakest setting as default. Someone would have to have their front porch light on dim to release it that way.
Look, all I want to do is run it at FULL STRENGTH and nothing else- ever. So what do I do about parameters- change a setting or run it on default?
Thanks very very much for helping me with this one!

Set Strength to GM - it should play at full strength.
Rodent requires there to be no .ini files, text files or .wtf files in its directory - I think the ini files are causing it to play at weakest strength - and it thinks that the other two are books - not ideal I know.

Rodent's *.ini file contains only strings that are used in UCI options panel. In other words, it is meant for registering available levels/personalities, not for setting them.
and Matthew is right that I didn't think about consequences of second *ini file in the folder

That is not relevant. You could have 300 ini files in the folder and chessbase would not pay a bit of attention to any of them. You got a straight UCI engine- not Winboard adapted to UCI- if you want chessbase to obey a command- it has to be in parameters, or it will be ignored. It will be coming up in Group 6 in the the next RR I start in a couple of days. I finagled around and changed the default strength from "Helpless" to "GM"- so I would not have to save and load a parameter setting. But without a way inside your parameters in the engine- there is no way to really make any elo change from 800 to 2600. I suspect it plays at the same level no matter which "word" you switch out for. And the few blitz games I ran bears that out to be true. It doesn't take but a coupla games to tell the diff. between 800 and 2600. So unless you put out a patched version of some kind that is running at only full strength by the weekend- I will just have to run it on the default- "GM", and hope for the best.

Pawel, as I suspected it pretty much has to be playing at full strength no matter what word or phrase you give it in your parameters. Just for the hell of it, I set it back on "Helpless"- and after 5 games at 40/3 repeating it was ahead of Pupsi2 0.09: 4-1 . Pretty much the same score you get setting it on "GM"- so for the purposes of strength- it doesn't much matter. As I can assure you, Fritz 11 gui cannot differentiate between 2 words like "Helpless" and "GM". And it doesn't care at all what is in your folder- not interested. That is just the way it works.

Hi all,
I don't have this problem with Rodent under Fritz 12 GUI. I use 2 personalities, one is Weak Attack and the other one Club Berserk. The first one is in the 1000 or less ELO range and the latter on the 1900-2000 range.
My problem is with Winboard. It can't read completely all the personalities list. I am not sure how can it work there.
Which I'd like is to use some Glass 1.9 personalities like "Punk". I tried the glass_weak executable, but it crashes sooner or later and when I choose the 64bits version they play too strong (I guess the real strenght of Glass.) All this with Fritz 12 gui.
Best regards,
Carlos

Set it on "GM" just to be 100% safe.geots wrote:Pawel, as I suspected it pretty much has to be playing at full strength no matter what word or phrase you give it in your parameters.
