Yep, latest Stockfish requires no tweaks at all...beats Houdini 3 at default settings.
Time for Houdini 4

Yes. This version seems very strong at my tested time control of 5/40. Match is to 50 games for this test, before I test against the other top programs.

And again Stockfish is showing its superiority over Houdini 3 at 5/40. And this is Houdini 3's wheelhouse.

Now this information makes me happy as I can calculate there really good chance this is true. In fact I am 95% certain Stockfish is somewhere between -15 and +132 ELO of Houdini.

Just use the latest version of stockfish, as of now there as been no new functional release since the version I tested. The 07 is the day, 09 is the month, 13 is the year this version was made I tested... Stockfish 070913

We can only hope so. This is called progress. I have seen this pattern play out since the beginning of the computer chess market. Some seem to think one program or programmer will always dominate. This is not what computer chess history teaches. The pattern is you have you time in the sun, and someone new or unexpected can comes along with new ideas and innovations. And they will have their time in the sun.

It could be Houdini again, or Rybka, or Komodo, or someone we don't expect, or someone new. No program plays perfect chess, so progress will continue.
