First game : Houdini 3 - Stockfish 4 -> 1 e4 e5 2 f4 exf4 3 Nf3 g5 4 h4 g4 5 Ng5 h6 6 Nxf7 Kxf7 7 Qxg4 Nf6 8 Qxf4 Bd6

It's the "King´s Gambit Accepted, Allgaier, Horny Defense" according to http://www.ajedrezaranjuez.com/openings.aspx?cod=C39

A miniature,
is seen that the king gambit is uncomfortable for the motors (or Houdini).

Sounds interesting the tournament.

Thanks. :lol:

The Allgaier Gambit is considered unsound. Book knowledge is very, very important in the KG. If you really want to investigate the opening you should probably start with some of the better lines such as

1. e4 e5 2. f4 exf4 3. Nf3 g5 4. h4 g4 5. Ne5 (Kieseritzsky)

1. e4 e5 2. f4 exf4 3. Nf3 d6 4 d4 (Fischer)

1. e4 e5 2. f4 exf4 3. Nf3 d5 (Modern Defense)

3. Nf3 g5 4. Bc4 is also very interesting. The main line is the Muzio Gambit 4.Bc4 g4 5.0-0!? gxf3 6.Qxf3. But I suspect few engines will play it well from that position. Opening theory there is very deep and there are many places to go wrong.

Thanks Jon,

by the way Gull 2.2 played the (Kieseritzsky) line vs Komodo.

What do you think about the line:

1. e4 e5 2. f3 exf4 3 Sf3 Be7...

Nice material imbalance : Q vs BBN with a lot of play for the Q. Komodo thinks it's -1 and Gull thinks it's = for about the whole game.

Yes, as far as I know, it was already considered refuted long before strong computer programs existed. The Hamppe-Allgaier gambit (1. e4 e5 2. f4 exf4 3. Nc3 Nc6 4. Nf3 g5 5. h4 g4 6. Ng5 h6 7. Nxf7) is probably marginally sounder, but I wouldn't trust that line either in computer games. And besides, in practice black will probably usually play 3... Qh4+ rather than 3... Nc6.

I agree. This opening has been analysed in extreme detail by human players for 150 years or so. You can't expect computer programs -- strong though they are -- to match this quality of analysis with just a few minutes of thinking time.

The bishop gambit (1. e4 e5 2. f4 exf4 3. Bc4) is also still considered playable, isn't it?

Yes, Short used to play this and even beat Kasparov with it. It is certainly playable. 3. .. Nf6 Nc3 4. c6 (or 3. .. c6 4. Nc3 Nf6) is at least = for Black though I think.
