Stage 1 finished earlier today and 19 engines qualified for Stage 2. Originally, 18 engines would qualify but there was a pairing issue with ChessGUI that only worked OK if using an odd number of participants. So the total number of games will be 171 and the top 10 qualifies for Stage 3.
List of participants, single round robin:
3146 - Houdini 3
3098 - Stockfish 160913
3092 - Rybka 4.1
3084 - Komodo 1092
3072 - Critter 1.6a
3069 - Bouquet 1.8a

For clarity:
the unfair pairings occur with single-cycle RR with even number of engines.
Odd-number-cycle RR in general with even number of engines may have the problem.
Matthias.

My engine was quite strong till I added knowledge to it.

So, Houdini has to start from 0, and show in the remaining 10 games that it will qualify into top 10 out of 19.Martin Thoresen wrote:Standings after 8 rounds:

Actually, looking at the Stockfish Development Versions on http://www.abrok.eu/stockfish/
there are 3 versions on 160913, at different times:
at 08:57
at 09:07
at 23:59
Which one is used on Stage 2 ?

Actually, things are not so bleak for Houdini: already here, his score is above average.Laskos wrote:So, Houdini has to start from 0, and show in the remaining 10 games that it will qualify into top 10 out of 19.
And he will be White in a majority of his remaining games.
And today, his updated score is 5 (8 games played).

Marco sent me the link to the binary, it was this link:
http://abrok.eu/stockfish/77b5ee0117e86 ... _sse42.exe
You can probably figure out which one of those 3 that is.
Best,
Martin

Fix time parameters for blitz games
The ideal setting for super-blitz might be something like:
"Emergency Base Time" = 50
"Emergency Move Time" = 5
This would give a total emergency time buffer of:
50 + 40 * 5 = 250 ms
This setup replaces the previous half cooked hack
"Don't blunder under extreme time pressure".
Test results are very good at super blitz, but keep good even
at 60 secs.

Yeah, I thought that Houdini played 8 games after 8 rounds in Martin's list, while it really had 4 out of 7 points. So, all the favourites are inside top 10.ernest wrote:Actually, things are not so bleak for Houdini: already here, his score is above average.Laskos wrote:So, Houdini has to start from 0, and show in the remaining 10 games that it will qualify into top 10 out of 19.

No problem, Martin (it's the 09:07 one, as Jesus also found out).Martin Thoresen wrote:You can probably figure out which one of those 3 that is.
I want to thank you again for this tournament event, which is a big source of thought on today's state of computer chess.
