This "may?" be premature, but I need some testers.
I added a torrent to my site that includes the full 6gig gaviota 3-4-6 set. I didn't want to push away from my syzygy DB set... but since I'm ALREADY hosting and offering the full set via web, I thought this would be a great test of the "webseeding" feature of torrents.
Even if there are 0 "bittorrent" seeders, there is at least 1 "web" seeder. Which I do plan to keep up indefinitely.
In my one test of leeching it.... it does seem to leech from the web... but my uTorrent client kept crashing.
Not sure if an issue of the client, or the "seeing mechanism".
Anyway...
If anyone is interested in the Gaviota 3-4-5 egtb's, and don't mind torrents... give it a shot, even a bit... I'm REALY currious if this will work.
I did see a download link from the "webseed" but REALLY not sure how well it will REALLY work, or how well it will scale, or if it's worth keeping given no REAL torrent seed.
Basically... whoever wants to try downloading it.,.. give it a shot... if works.. I get the stats "server side" and if not ... again I get the stats "server side" and can see if it's worth keeping this torrent alive, given ONLY webseeds

Re: Gaviota Torrent
Hi Josh,
although I already have the Gaviota set from your website, I tried the torrent. Unfortunately, there is an error message my client's (µTorrent 3.3 Build 29677) log:
This repeats until infinity (just a guess).
I also figured, 173.254.28.66 is your IP linked to "olympuschess.com". Unfortunately, I am not network-guy, so I cannot provide any clues what goes wrong ("/gaviota/" missing...???). But it looks like on the server/tracker side to me.
Wish you luck finding the bug.
Regards, Marcus
PS: Thanks to you for the syzygy-torrent and to Ronald de Man for his excellent work and liberal license politics!

Re: Gaviota Torrent
I have only used uTorrent on Windows, but it is very stable there.
Be sure your firewall allows incoming connections to whatever port uTorrent is set up to use.

Re: Gaviota Torrent
Ok, my bad. Had some problems with UPnP and port forwarding.
Now, the error messages are gone and I see 35 seeds.
I will quit the gaviota-torrent, as my upload bandwidth is capped by my provider, and I want to help seeding the syzygy-bases instead.
