I need some advice.
I use the free version of Bitdefender. Generally I love it (because it unobtrusive). Unfortunately when developing and testing it often flags Maverick as a potential virus and kills the process. I have flagged the EXE as an exception but I suppose after every build it has a different signature and the problem repeats. I literally need to turn Bitdefender off when developing - which is not great.
So.....
What's the best virus software when developing chess apps?
Does the full version of Bitdefender have better exclusion features (e.g. exclude whole folder from scan)?

Hi Rein,
I was using MSE, but even that gave some spurious false positives.
I'm currently testing Webroot. It seems to fit the bill. It allows for exception, which should work nicely

No, you shouldn't have. Maybe Steve won't listen to your very sensible advice, but perhaps others will.zullil wrote:Linux.Steve Maughan wrote: What's the best virus software when developing chess apps?

Mac OS X is also reasonable, although I am more comfortable programming in Linux.
A friend of mine said many years ago that antivirus programs are viruses. I like how Steve referred to them as "virus software"; I guess he agrees, but he still thinks he needs it.

Alvaro,
Funny and a modicum of truth! I think it's Avast which makes most of its money selling the email addresses of its subscribers. I could be mistaken.
In the English language we often say the positive and mean "against", or the negative. For example, "we take a tablet *for* a headache". German is much more sensible on this point; they take a tablet against a headache ("gegen kopfschmerzen).

With the full version of Bitdefender in fact I have this exclude whole folder option that works well.

In Russian we tell "to accept a tablet from a head (not headache)" :)Steve Maughan wrote:In the English language we often say the positive and mean "against", or the negative. Why am I not surprised? You also pronounce every letter in a German word..so straightforward! Compare that to French for example.they take a tablet against a headache ("gegen kopfschmerzen).
